I went to the supermarket yesterday and I saw that my washing powder is now "New AND Improved", and I'm wondering how it can be both? Surely it's either new, or old and has been improved?

Why, Dave, I am so glad you asked (and made no comment whatsoever on my haddock pun! )...

 

The reason is that of COURSE, the improved powder, which is older stuff, has been mixed with the new stuff, thereby creating the new AND improved label. Strictly speaking, it should say "part improved and part new", but it wouldn't have quite the same ring, would it?

 

(Typical Friday afternoon banter here, you'd think we have nothing better to do! )
