Help needed please.

I have been really really stupid and I just don’t know what to do.

I have gambled away this last week and now have a negative Paypal balance, I am going to owe them thousands and just don’t have the money to pay them.   I don’t even know how this happened, well I do my own stupid stupid fault but I just kept thinking I will get it back and all will be fine.  I have managed to do so before but not this time.

I don’t know how to tell my partner, he is going to be so angry and annoyed with me.  I am with  myself.    I am just about all alone as it is and if he is not there then I don’t know how I will cope.   What will Paypal do?  I am so scared.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you

CA

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

then the bottom line is they can do very little. its just a negative balance to a foreign company (luxy. eu)

make sure you remove any debit/credit cards listed as payment source (have you?)

and cancel their DD at your banks portal

They must be able to do something?

I can't just leave it owing.  Not that I have the money. Should I contact them?

I haven't removed or cancelled anything yet.

Thanks for your replies and time

type in paypal in our search top right and get reading up.

for now your priority is to remove all methods of them taking money from you by the methods detailed above.

inc phoning your bank and cancelling any continuous payment authorities via debit cards.

stop gambling too!!

Thank you

I've read some other posts re paypal and post/pre brexit.

This debt is post brexit but I have had my paypal account since before brexit.  Does this make a difference?

Thanks again.

So this means they can't do anything even though the debt is post brexit?

Sorry if I'm sounding daft but my head is muddled with it all.

Thank you

as far as we've seen to date.

you've not signed a uk credit agreement so are simply dealing with a negative balance on an old eu pp a/c.

eu pp dont do court, eu pp debts dont show on credit files.

read the recent pp threads here this week.

So do nothing? Sorry I don't mean to go on, it just doesn't seem right. Should I not pay something each month if I can?

I will have a read at the PayPal threads this evening.

Thanks again

I'll leave dx to do the clever stuff about money and accounts, I just wonder if you have any support in your life? You could get this from Gamblers Anonymous who are non-judgemental and I believe there's also an industry funded helpline.

there is ceetainly nothing wrong with paying them 'something'.

but do it totally under your control using you online banking BACS/Fast payment portal.

ensure you cut off ALL methods of them sucking payments automatically from any payment source in the your wallet section of PP.

Good grief no.

Where are you getting all these silly ideas from?

even if it was a uk debt, it's a personal one, nothing to do with any household nor its other occupants.

debt is not a crime.

IP addresses are nothing to do with 'a household'

they are to do with each device used.

Thanks dx

I realise that but just what I read seemed to suggest linking any account accessed using same IP.  I do sometimes use a shared device.

Sorry I'm thinking too much.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

I've spoken with PayPal and asked about setting up a payment plan. They have said this isn't something they would do but in time my account may get passed to a collection agency and I would be able to set up a payment plan with them.

I asked how long it would take for my account to be passed to a collection agency and was told there was no set time for this. Does anyone know how long this usually takes?

Many thanks

And you ignore all dca's anyway....

Just pay what you can when you can to pp. No need for any 'arrangement', there is stuff and all they can do to you nor your credit file.  Use Bacs only!

Ok, thanks dx. So as you said before, do nothing.

I just can't get my head around doing nothing, constantly thinking about this.

Thanks again
