that may be you hdd failing or system fan causing overheating  - which makes backing up your photos even more important.

We need the simple copy to a folder to confirm what size memory stick you need - and which memory stick would be useless anyway if we cant do a basic copy

 

might be worthwhile just ordering the 120GB one to have it ready. That should be big enough for everything - probably more than

My thoughts are to get the photos into a separate dir on the empty d: drive parttition

Then sandy can check see if she notices anything missing - then guide to get whatevers missing in there - missing pics/vids/downlaods/browser logins etc)

 

then a simple 'send to' a memory stick of suitable size will transfer the stuff off the computer.

 

I'm connecting via a phone tether with a poor signal area in bad weather at moment and am out a lot doing something for family.

If it is HDD failing, then I would suggest avoiding sfc/dism unless last resort

 

That freeware prog has 'my document pics vids and downloads as tickable entries and will also get apps roaming data, as well as any folder or files added

note:

That utility prog includes a file explorer as does 7zip (a very good one often even when windows file manager is kaput)

giving up, can not get anything to work, so have go for a memory stick I guess or get someone to physically show me what to do, I am not normally like this but the fall and getting COVID on top is taking it out on me

The memory stick is no use if you cant get the files onto it - or onto anything else

You need to be able to access and copy the originals to get them anywhere

 

@dx';s chrome suggestion is brilliant - you are familiar with it - read the link and try it

I can access my pictures, d/l's, programs etc, each has its own folder, I do everything online, even banking, I c an find all them,

 

got the memory stick to work, 2..78 GB FREE of 14.4 GB

I opened it and all my pics there, now just new get bookmarks on it?

 

have put everything on the memory stick and   they showing, test will be when I try new comp and find out, left memory stick in at mo

Thats a well know error message connected with Win10....you don't have to use OneDrive and you can sign out or alternatively open one drive and empty the contents of the folders. Microsoft always want you to buy more space.

all my pics were on a memory stick, still are but  some gone on comp, think that why onedrive says full?

uninstall any thing Norton. McFee etc etc all bloatware.

 

also as a side issue.

 

make an additional account on windows, say call it admin, and use that one to install everything and to administer your new pc.

 

make the account you are going to use everyday on the internet etc etc an account WITHOUT administrator privileges .

hi dx, got rid of McFee , waited for free trial to end, wanted to charge me for keeping it, I have tried to get the 360 total security but  it said not compactacal (cant spell! lol )  with my computer? I dont want pay for protecting computer unless have to, not  got any protection on it atm far as know, still learning my way round it lol
