I am really quite surprised and disturbed that fracking is being allowed in the UK when there are such dreadful health and environmental concerns coming out of the USA !

Just trying to find out the latest info from Yorkshire.

I have noticed that there is a meeting tonight 7 Jul 2016, Wharf Chambers, Leeds 7-10pm

Discussing Knostrop amongst other things.

If Fracking goes ahead in the UK everyone will know where that place is.

Interesting that

The Knostrop Treatment Works, operated by FCC Environment, is the south-east of Leeds, on the River Aire. The site has been mentioned in correspondence between Lancashire County Council and Arup in connection with radioactive waste water disposal (frack waste), from Cuadrilla Resource’s proposed appraisal wells at Preston New Road and Roseacre in Lancashire.

Let us see what is there.

I suppose they are hoping to dissuade the Water Treatment Works to handle The Waste

With Knostrop as 1 of only 4 places in the country with a permit to accept this stuff, if we can get them to refuse to accept it then fracking companies have said they would not be able to go through with the hydraulic fracturing activity…

I will check out the meeting as much as i can and update on how things went. What was said, things like that.

Also, have noted a meeting tonight in York.7-9pm

PLANNING AND STRATEGY MEETING – ALL WELCOME!

We would really appreciate as many helpers as possible at our next meeting. We are meeting for the first time at a new venue, the Yorkshire Terrier pub on Stonegate, near our usual meeting place.

And they say on Saturday 30th July there is a Yorkshire against Fracking demo

The main focus will be our YORKSHIRE AGAINST FRACKING demo at the end of the month. Please put Saturday 30th July in your diaries for the county’s biggest anti-fracking demonstration – we will be hosting people from all over the country as we come together – join us.

Will find out more.

Germany-

Germany, the fourth largest economy in the world, has essentially banned fracking. And if that’s not enough good news for a clean energy future, its capital city Berlin is also pulling its money out of coal, gas and oil companies.

Germany has taken great strides as a renewable energy powerhouse. The country’s Energiewende initiative aims for a nearly carbon-free economy by 2050. In fact, renewables supplied nearly 33 percent of German electricity in 2015, and last month—on a particularly sunny and windy day—Germany’s renewable energy mix of solar, wind, hydropower and biomass generated so much power that it met 88 percent of the country’s total electricity demand, or 55 GW out of 63 GW being consumed, meaning it generated so much clean power the country was paying people to use it.

Well my view is clear Frack off Frackers.

There are alternatives to fracking

Worth a read.A interesting article.

http://www.contributoria.com/issue/2014-08/5392eccaf461286f4f00012b/

In 2011, UK fracking operations were halted due to earthquakes, which took Cuadrilla weeks to admit their industry likely caused.

Perhaps a touch dated but you get the picture i am sure.

The Conservative government has profited already in donations from fracking interests, revealed by media investigations this year and in 2012. These articles give examples of some of the investors with their money on fracking. In the mix with donations, there is an often blurred line between the fracking industry and Conservative-led government. Lord Browne is a key example: he is both chairman of Cuadrilla and a senior adviser to the UK government. Senior Conservative advisers Lynton Crosby and Ben Moxham are two other examples. Now advising Cameron, Crosby has fracking interests; Moxham worked for Lord Browne at BP and is now Cameron’s energy adviser.

Local water engineer Peter Rolinson has years of experience with the oil and gas industry.

Wherever you are in the UK worth listening to.

When an oil company turned up in his village to drill a well and carry out a mini-frack, he knew the risks and voiced his concerns.

Here he explains why the underground reservoirs in East Yorkshire are so valuable, the risks from fracking, a little bit of chemistry, and why fracking should not be allowed in the UK.

Massive Fracking Explosion in New Mexico, 36 Oil Tanks Catch Fire

This week—as thousands of Americans urge awareness to the destruction caused by oil bomb trains—an oil field in San Juan County, New Mexico erupted in flames Monday night, highlighting the continued and increasing dangers of the fossil fuel industry.

The fire broke out around 10:15 p.m. Monday at a fracking site owned and operated by WPX Energy, setting off several explosions and temporarily closing the nearby Highway 550. Fifty-five local residents were forced out of their homes.

There are implications for Home Insurance and government needs to talk to Insurers about this. Otherwise there is a huge potential for problems.

http://stopfyldefracking.org.uk/latest-news/further-update-on-property-insurance-and-potential-damage-caused-by-fracking/

There is doubt that damage caused by fracking would be accepted by Insurers, as the fracking is done under licence from government. In the same way as the National Coalboard were responsible for subsidence issues caused by mining, Insurers will expect the government to step in to help homeowners. If government are making payment to homeowners what is the basis of this ? People should check that this is not a government looking to escape liability by making some upfront payment, which they expect homeowners to use towards any damage or extra Insurance costs.

If people live in fracking areas, they should check with their Home Insurers whether they might use general exclusions to refuse claims. If they can't get Home Insurance to cover their properties, then they need to contact their MP's to lobby the government to pass legislation protecting homeowners, with government setting up an agency to handle any claims.

This also applies to business owners in fracking areas. Check with your Insurers about covering all issues which might relate to fracking. This could include cover relating to contamination of the water supply, where your business is unable to operate because of the disruption of the water supply. If you have a business that relies on water and are left without a safe supply for weeks, the disruption could cause business failure and debts.

There have been problems with fracking in the US and on a very small island such as the UK, homes and businesses are going to be much closer to where the fracking takes place.

We could do with some help from you.

Fracking given UK go-ahead as Lancashire council rejection overturned

Communities secretary, Sajid Javid, has accepted an appeal from Cuadrilla against an earlier decision to turn down their plans to frack on the Fylde

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/oct/06/uk-fracking-given-go-ahead-as-lancashire-council-rejection-is-overturned

Fracking in Lancashire given go-ahead by government

Horizontal fracking can go ahead, the government has said, in a landmark ruling for the UK shale gas industry.

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has approved plans for fracking at Cuadrilla's Preston New Road site at Little Plumpton in Lancashire.

Environmentalists and local campaign groups reacted angrily, saying it was a denial of local democracy.

It means, for the first time, UK shale rock will be fracked horizontally, which is expected to yield more gas.

Lancashire campaigners vow to fight on after ‘deplorable’ fracking decision

Pat Davies, chairman of the Preston New Road Action Group, said: “This is a sad day as it is clear to all that this Government neither listens nor can it be trusted to do the right thing for local communities. “It is deplorable that an industry that has been rejected on every level has inflicted itself on Preston New Road. “Westby Parish Council, Fylde Borough Council and Lancashire County Council planning committee all said no to this application.

These reasons were based on facts and knowledge, they rejected the site as unsuitable. “Dismantling the democratic process to facilitate a dirty fossil fuel industry when only months ago the UK committed to climate change targets in Paris is another example of saying one thing and doing another.”

Hundreds expected to protest at Lancashire fracking site

Environmentalists plan sustained campaign against Cuadrilla after government gave it green light for drilling

Hundreds of people are expected to protest near a fracking site in Lancashire that was given the green light by the government this week.

The Lancashire Responds rally on Saturday is the first shot across the bows of Cuadrilla, in what anti-fracking groups and local residents say will be a sustained campaign of action to stop the company fracking next year.

Environmentalists said they were considering a series of “rolling blockades” to dog and delay the shale company in setting up its rigs at the Preston New Road site on the Fylde.

“This is a test case for fracking in the UK and our intention is to send a clear message to investors: it’s not a safe investment putting your money in extracting more hydrocarbons,” said a spokesman for the Reclaim the Power group, which was involved in protests against Cuadrilla drilling in Balcombe in 2013.

I feel your post that i have read a few times now unclebulgaria67 is going to be very important.

Yes where do people stand with their insurance policies if Fracking manages to go ahead across the country.

And the possibilities for something going wrong on this tiny Island where we live so close to each other.

As so many sites could possibly appear across the country i would be asking if i was a business or a homeowner anywhere in the country about this.

Perhaps this has been sorted out now and insurance companies have planned for this.

Does anyone know.

A couple of days ago, we raised the issue of house insurance for residents living in fracking areas. Our item, Homeowners – fracking damage is now an “excluded peril” from buildings insurance policies was supplied by a local resident who lives in St Annes, and who had been making enquiries into whether or not he could get house insurance that would cover damage caused by fracking. He wasn’t having much success. Below is his update.

A few Videos From The Fracking Protest In Blackpool Yesterday.

It seems to be the power of the people that will change the thinking of this government.

Many said that local Democracy has been challenged and overuled.Surely that what government is all about, acting on behalf of the thoughts of the people not the corporations. You have to ask yourself why subsidies have been cut to renewables, just who are the powerful ones has interests in these companies.

You have to be careful when you wake the sleeping giants, the people.

Local resident seeks Judicial Review

Mr. Julian Burton has formally made a statutory challenge to the Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities

(Sajid Javid) regarding his decisions concerning fracking at Roseacre Wood.

Mr. Burton, who is being represented by Cornerstones Barristers, had previously submitted a letter before action giving his

grounds for challenge but the Secretary of State has now responded and has made it very clear that he intends to defend his position. Papers have now been lodged at court

and are being sent to the Secretary of State and all other interested parties.

Losses mount at Cuadrilla as it counts the cost of fracking delays

Britain’s leading shale gas explorer Cuadrilla Resources has reported widened losses of almost $18m (£15m) for 2015 as it counts the costs of another year waiting to get fracking approval.

The energy company has spent almost three years seeking permission to frack in Lancashire and hopes to finally start drilling next year after getting the green light for one of its sites earlier this month.

Currently it has no oil and gas production, so virtually no income.

Strange how pressure ages people, presidents, bosses all come and go.

Come in so youthful and fired up,then go out grey and worn out.

I feel next year 2017 more aging will be taking place.

As investors realise as a sign i saw that read,Investors will lose millions.

Far better to put your money in the Post Office. At least you will not lose it.

Will it be local people that will stop the fracking in their local communities.

I do not know but anger has risen as Democratic decisions by local people are overuled.

As if they do not matter.A big mistake.

This post is from my observations made and reading.I am not a activist by any means.

Where they get their energy from i do not know, but i admire them.I have met a few, talked to a few and i know which side i am on.

Or that support for renewables is as high as it has ever been.

Or that Tremors etc are now proved to be caused by Fracking.

If people did not consume as much, there would not be such a problem.

Many of us will remember grandparents who lived in houses without central heating. They just had coal fires in the main rooms they occupied, which i know is not seen as environmentally friendly these days. But if you think of damage caused in the production of gas/electricity and then all the gas fumes etc. And during colder weather you just put on extra layers of warm clothing.

The problem in most older countries like the UK is that the housing stock is very inefficient at holding onto any heat. Yes people have had insulation installed, double glazing etc, but they still are nowhere near as good as the new build eco houses that are being developed. If you use the right materials and get the design right, for most parts of the country, you would hardly need any heating. The same is true for office buildings, where new designed buildings use much less energy.

Hi Unclebulgaria,true words.

You keep hitting the nail square on the head with interesting thoughts and posts.

Why i was only reading somewhere this morning how many homes are still not insulated or even have loft insulation.

Time for huge modernisation.Get the flatpacks in.

One home you will not have to pay a heating bill again. At a price you would find hard to believe.

But who would this hurt, who would it affect. The power companies and money men would hate this idea.

Profit at any cost, sod the people.

Rushing these posts a little hope it gives a rough idea of thoughts i have every now and again.

Do not believe everything you are told someone said to me a while ago,too true, especially when money is involved.
