Staff nominee pass, used for 1 train stop, caught and letter received.

Hi,

I used my colleague's staff nominee pass once and got caught by a plain clothes revenue officer on the 15th of November. 
I gave my details and received the letter today and I'm stressing out. 

 

I took the pass off their table when walking out to pick something up. My colleague wasn't present at the time when taking the pass. 

When the officer stopped me I didnt have any id and went through my phone and the name didnt match. At the time I told the officer my colleague doesn't know I've taken the pass and gave my correct details.
I use my contactless to travel and have this connected to my TfL account which shows my journeys. 
Me and my colleague both travel to and from the same station.

How do I deal with without getting prosecuted and without getting a criminal record.

your task is now to write to tfl with a begging letter hoping they dont take you to court and get you fined and a criminal record.

No, this was the only time I used a TfL pass and was stopped. I use my contactless all the time.

To whom it may concern,

 

Please accept my sincere apology for the clear lack of judgement I’ve exhibited by using my colleagues staff nominee pass without his knowing. I am full of regret and disappointment in my actions.

 

On Tuesday the 15th, I was travelling from XX and back to collect my colleague’s food order for him – he didn’t want to go, and I said I would if he would pay for my travel. When my colleague left his desk to visit the toilet, I decided to borrow his oyster card in order to transfer the commute cost to him, little did I know that this was a staff nominee pass.

 

I had left and didn’t realise that it was a staff nominee pass only after I was stopped by the officer. I was very worried of being caught at that point and is why I attempted to explain to the travel enforcement officer that that I didn’t have any id to prove that this was mine.

 

I was extremely frightened of the mistake I had made and did not want to get into trouble for an honest mistake. I was polite and honest to the officer and gave him all my details.

 

Please inspect my personal travel history and you will note that I always pay my way for my daily commute and any other travel expenses. This is the first time I have allowed myself to indulge in irresponsible and incomprehensible behaviour, an all to save just over £4.

 

I accept that my actions were wrong and am requesting to pay the fair due and any administrative costs caused by my actions. I vow to never borrow or use an oyster card that is not mine ever again. I am full of regret and the looming worry over prosecution is causing me to have sleepless nights.

 

I am on a below average paying salary and must help to provide at home as my mother is unemployed. I already undergo financial hardship and it would be unimaginable to suffer the consequence of obtaining a criminal record and subsequent unemployment for a split-second lack of judgement.

 

I pride myself on being a hard-working, law-abiding citizen and feel deep shame from allowing myself to make such a stupid mistake. I have familiarized myself with the outcomes of fair evasion and effect it has on our transport network – I fully understand the severity of my actions.

 

Once again, I hope you can accept my apology.

That's not bad for a first draft. One thing we say is to limit your letter to one side of A4 - how long is yours?

 

If the TfL letter has someone's name at the bottom of it, address your reply to them and make sure you put on their case number.
