Increased costs in transportation ? Cost of shipping have increased quite a lot I believe and then you have the road transport costs of getting it to the pumps.

There is definitely profiteering involved, but I am guessing those involved in the accounting for this industry would point to increased costs, so the additional profits are disputed.

We could do with some help from you.

Mainly due to the increased price of the fuel are using to transport it - a symptom not a cause

.. well apart from the UK where the loss of EU truckers has also hit transport costs and availability  - acknowledged, but strangely I've seen constantly lower fuel prices in the more isolated areas  along the Lincolnshire  coastal areas

but thats probably 'other factors like supermarket subsidy driving prices down where its a fair trip to the nearest superstore for many

Shell reported its second highest quarterly earning on record yesterday. Despite global profits soaring to $9.5bn between July and September:

Shell paid £0 – zero – in the UK windfall tax because of a loophole inserted into the plan by Sunak when he was chancellor under Boris Johnson.

You seem to be mistaking who the windfall is for HB

its windfall tax relief for the companies very carefully dressed up in a bit of a party frock

always has been

Theres ONLY the UK tax payer paying here

What there needs to be is a tax on EVERY bit of oil and gas extracted by ANYONE from the UK's resources,

preferably with a cost+ price to all of such used by the UK - with priority of use/availability to the UK

Not just no windfall tax :

Energy UK, a lobby group that represents energy firms other than oil and gas producers, says Sunaks tax breaks will be worth £25bn a year for extractors (NOT green energy suppliers).

It argued that the same sum would help to fund the infrastructure for enough windfarms to power 7m homes in the UK.

One from Thursday, some good points here regarding what Energy Companes will do when people don't or can't pay.  Self Disconnection is convenient as it is kept from the figures.

Yes, to at least some of that

Similarly the technique/scam some GP surgeries are running where thousands and thousands are getting:

'we haven't got any appointments, ring up tomorrow at 8am when some more will be released'

- and if you cant get through then, or are 'too late', try again tomorrow

none of those are flagged as failing to give an appointment.

so also massaging atrocious stats into something far less bad

While we wait for what could be an interesting discussion on peterson - the sometimes misused hero of incels who claim to be aphas

(i would suggest a separate thread for @brassneckedthoughts and challenges on the subject)

So, seems these record profits we keep seeing are from 20-30% lower gas usage (see higher in the thread)

and gas prices are expected to remain high for at least a couple of years (until significant alternatives go online) per market analysis

- unlike many of his proponents and fans (and i would amend the above .. as amended

on the positive side, some of the work he did before he seemed to implode up his own backside; eg maps of meaning; is excellent and should be required reading - as should Moore's dragon of grandiosity which should be read while considering peterson.

Both are on youtube.

I think we said before [me, possibly] that they kept quiet about this side of smart meters when people were encouraged to have them.

In France it's very difficult not to have one of EdF's Linky meters. It turned out since the threat to electricity supplies that a Linky can turn off your electric water heater remotely if it's on between 12-2 or other peak hours, to reduce demand on the grid.

Had most people been aware of why smart meters were being installed, they would not have had one.

In the UK, there was no compulsion, and they were sold on saving money.

I don't have a smart meter, as each time I was contacted, I was just about to change suppliers.

I bet that those meters that are not working correctly enough to allow a switch of suppliers, will still work, when the suppliers want to cut off or restrict supplies.

We could do with some help from you.
