Vehicle not SORN

I'm really worried , we have a few cars , one is in bits at the bottom of the garden has been for a year , I had a sudden panic today we have not sorn it , it is insured we just forgot , I have looked on ask mid and the tax ran out in november , we have sorn it tonight but I'm real worried we will get a large fine coming or way through our own stupid mistake , thanks for your time

if its insured then there is no worries

its only if the car is not insured that you get a fine sometimes.

 

save yourself money.

Thankyou , the mot is obviously out as well , I thought you could get fined for late notifications of sorn

Continuous insurance requirement : so if not SORN’d needs insurance even if off the road.

you’ve complied with that, fortunately.

 

Tax and MOT : no requirement provided the vehicle isn’t on a public road (which can include a car park to which the public have access!).

Again, you are fine as was off-road.

 

So relax, you’ve gone the right thing (keeping it insured until SORN’d), and I agree : as SORN’d you can now cancel the insurance!

Many thanks I worry so much , it's not been sorn tonight but really should have remembered to do it six months ago , the tax has been out since November as well and mot , fingers crossed , I Justin worry as how will they know we hav'nt used it the last six months , it's in bits won't ever show up on any cameras in the last year , !

Surely that's not correct, tax (VED) is due whether the car is on the road or not, unless declared SORN.  That's been the case for quite a few years well before continuous insurance requirements came into force.

Yes, 'On a public road' was removed from s.29, Vehicles Excise & Registration Act 1994 by Sch. 45, Finance Act 2008, now it is 'If a person uses, or keeps, a vehicle which is unlicensed he is guilty of an offence', there are exemptions, one is if the vehicle is subject of a SORN and not used or kept on a public road.
