Hi all,

Little bit of info that may be useful to you. I'm thinking of changing my phone, and one option I'm looking at is an iPhone. My car has built-in bluetooth, which does support the A2DP protocol that Apple (and maybe others) needs to allow you to play music from the phone via the in-car bluetooth.

I'm glad I decided to check whether it would work before I changed my phone as this is the main reason I wanted a new phone.

My car (11 plate Mondeo Titanium X) contains a Sony CD DAB unit with A2DP enabled bluetooth.

Not sure about others, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning this little snippet.

One of my main pet hates with all of these "advancements" (especially apple) is they make things, say "this is the standard that they run at" and then sue anyone else that tries to use it :/

Apple is suing Google over their android OS using some of their patents, google bought Motorola and Motorola sues apple... Also apple are suing HTC, samsung are suing apple and vice versa.... the loser? us. No phone manufacturer can make a handset that is "the best" because of all the patents and suing that goes on! :p

Rant over, normal service can resume :p

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Or send a cheque or postal order payable to Reclaim the Right Ltd.

Hark back a few years. Look who started it. Apple. The other manufacturers wanted to relax the security of the patents to open the market and allow technology to evolve.

Apple or more so Steve Jobs, said no. Then they started buying patents and heavily enforcing them. I mean come on. One of their biggest patents was the " swipe to unlock" feature on their phones/ipads. How exactly can you patent a gesture?

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Beats me. In the bad old days when Apple only sold Macs, you had to take them back to the dealer to have RAM fitted!

Well, thats apple for you. Theres no doubt that they are indeed solid products, however, the design, practicability and indeed concept just doesnt work when compared to other similar products on the market.

Update on this.

Had a conversation with someone in an Orange Shop and learned a bit more about Bluetooth. Seems there are different levels of sophistication for Bluetooth connectivity. As Bluetooth is owned by Sony, then different levels of license fees are payable depending on the level of functionallity is available.

I'll be researching this further and reporting back.
