Hi all.

I work in a commercial property for family. We do not use any Gas what so ever here however there is a meter installed on the premises.

It may sound like a stupid question, but is it necessary for me to pay for gas if we don't use any in the first place?

Can we not just state to our current Gas supplier, we do not want to renew our contract with you mr. Gas Supplier - and not enter into a contract of any sort with anybody..?

Thanks in advance

p.s. Apologies if this question has already been asked.

Hi mind

You only pay for the gas that you use, if you don't use it, you don't need to pay. You need to tell the Utility company. Make sure you get a response in writing. Are there any flats above? Make sure you keep a note of the reading. From the meter you can find out who the supplier was/is.

Hi Rebel.

This commercial site does not have any flats associated with it. My Gas supplier said the only way to avoid paying for gas was to get the meter removed.

It would cost approx £300, however to reinstall - they initially said several thousand pounds!

Then I spoke to someone else who said it was approx £400 for an install...

I also asked if I could get a pre pay meter for the gas, but no one I could find could install one of these into a commercial building.

Was in a world of despair but got what I needed I guess. Thanks for your reply :)
