Hi, only just found this forum so if I'm in the wrong place or anything please direct me to where I should be.

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I bought a laptop from PC World on 26th December and last night I got a message come up saying the my drive is failing and it should be turned off immediately, it directed me through some checks which I followed and the only thing that appears not to be failling is the battery and memory.

Does anyone know where I stand with this? I didn't take out additional insurance so I'm assuming because it is less than 1 year I would be entitled to PC World sorting it out. Would it be down to them to repair or should it be replaced because it is so new?

Thanks in advance,

Zoe.

Hi and welcome to CAG

SoGA is you friend here. Where a fault develops in the first six months, it is accepted that the fault was there from the purchase and that PC world have an obligation to deal with it. Chances are though is that they will attempt a repair and initially, you will have to let them. you cannot demand an automatic replacement

edit: thread moved to PC World forum

thank you for your quick reply, its most helpful, do you know if there is a certain time scale in which it would need to be repaired and returned to me. Just that I use my laptop quite a bit and its really inconvenient that I'm going to be without it.

Thanks.

Don't quote me but I think they have 28 days from taking the laptop away to turn it around

Hi Zapjep,

I work for currys/pc world so can definitely tell you to take to store or phone customer services to get it dealt with. What will happen is a courier will collect the laptop and have taken to newark for a diagnostic in which we will either a repair or replace. The 28 day rule applies from date of collection by courier not from when you hand it into store. so the call to customer services for a courier ma be wise.

I am happy to hear that. Air on the side of caution and note the person you spoke to as 10 days is usually reserved for our premier whatever happens customers. So the person may have made an error not your fault so hold them to it. Just get that name written and remembered.

c-130 the new promise is a aim of 10 days for all customers and 7 days for premier

Yep Labrat I know the knowhow promise. We have had it for over a week now and have been running to it just after services were re planned just after peak period. However the knowhow promise is one that has many loopholes including needing to be a WEH or paying customer. A warranty claim can still fall to the old policy as it is reasonable time period.

Hi

Welcome to The Consumer Action Group.

I am just letting you know that as you haven't had any replies to your post yet, it might be better if you post your message again in an appropriate sub-forum. You will get lots of help there.

Also take some time to read around the forum and get used to the layout. It is a big forum and takes a lot of getting used to.

Once you start to find your way, you will soon realise that it is fairly easy to get round and to get the help you need.

It can be bit confusing at first.

Please be advised that my time will be limited for the next few weeks. Thanks for your understanding.
