Hi, just a word of warning, when sending letters to Abbey (and probably every other bank) send it Special Delivery. It is more expensive but it is guarenteed to get there the next day. I have recently restarted the process (although I am already asking myself why, as I clearly do not have a clue, can't even work my way round this site properly) and sent my letter recorded delivery. That was on 02 Nov, it has still not been signed for! The post office have told me that when they deliver post to large companies like banks, they give them the whole lot in a big crate and it is sent to some department where they work through it. As a result, 11 days on my letter has not been signed for which throws all the deadlines out of wack. Hope I am not repeating any previous advice. Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for the advice, I'm having the same problem finding my way around the site! took my until today to find my thread!!!

On the blue tool bar if you click into "user CP" you will see a list of your recent posts and can click there to see all your older posts etc.. - it's sometimes easier than looking back through pages & pages of threads when you've perhaps not posted on a topic for a while? Have a look and try it - you'll soon get familiar with where your posts are etc..

Hi. I know I am probably doing this in the wrong place but given the response from elizabeth1 I thought I would jump in. I am going insane!!!!! I posted a question in the database formus (or at least I thought I did) and then then whole system dissappeared for a couple of days and I couldn't even get the home page let alone log in. Now, I am back and I a) can't find the database forum; b) can't find any of my posts under user CP as suggested above and c) can't properly remember what I asked as I was so confused by it all at the time and I am dreading having to sit down and try and work it out again and then find the right place to post it....is it only me that finds the whole process so difficult. I keep feeling like I should jack it all in, especially as I can't even manage to find my way around the web site that is helping me!! :(

Hey!! Don't worry - you will get the hang of this place if you take it easy and not panic/worry - there isn't a getting it right or wrong here - we can all lose track of where we posted etc.. (it's my party trick!!)

Another way you can see where you recently posted is to click onto your name on one of your posts (the MFaulkener in the top left hand side of the message box) you'll see a grey drop down box appear with some headings in there ? One of them will say view recent posts - if you click where it says view recent posts - your list of posts will appear? (try it a couple of times as sometimes if you move mouse too quickly the grey box of stuff disappears before you had chance to read it ha ha - but try it again till you get the bit you want to click into)

When you see your list of posts - you should be able to click to the post you want to go to - it seems all your 7 posts are in two threads (this one and the one you think you've lost) - I just looked and your other posts are there still - so you should be able to go see what you asked etc..

It will take you time to get familiar on here but keep going you'll find clicking on a posters name also allows you to send the poster a personal message (that will go personally to them if you say want privacy in a topic you don't want to discusss/post on the board etc..) - you can also see where the person posted recently as well.

I hope from this you will find what you were looking for etc.. try spend some time just getting used to the different screens - don't give up here - there is such a lot of useful information here to help you etc.. it's a shame you'd miss out!!

Post again if you get stuck I will try explain this stuff to you - I don't know lots - but I might just be able to explain the screens to you - it's easy to lose track where you been posting and where you have been reading etc..

Urm you sure???? :D

Now where did i put my backside {feels around in the dark with both hands}.

Ahha here it is!!!

Only joking, i think this site is pretty intimidating bearing in mind the reason most people are here for and how important it is to them to be able to reclaim these charges.

But the others are right, don't panic just take your time start threads in the relevant forums to post your own information and away you go.

HTH and good luck, oh and by the way theres a few people from Essex in here including myself. So you're not alone

I have my court date against abbey for my DPA request which they have not given me in full on the 23rd november. Can i use the letter i recieved from the ICO stating that abbeys system is relevant? Abbey are trying to get my case to a higher court because they think it will take too long for the small claims court, do you think i might be the test case they were looking for? i hope not, most people seem to have them backing down by this time before a court date and i havent heard anything!

Of course you can and should use the letter the ICO sent out.

And yes you may be the test case they are looking for, with regards to being pushed to a higher court, there are some templates and words about, might be in the thread related to mercantile courts, for you to write to the court asking that if they do transfer the claim to a higher court that they do so with an order where costs are not awarded against you.

MFAULKENER,

Hey glad you still with us and finding your way around here :D apologies if my answer seemed long winded (easier to try explain to someone who knew nothing of a forum - than to try guess what you diid know)

I used to always do this stuff and think I'd lost posts etc.. - but we do get the hang of it honestly if we stick around and keep trying!! It can look scary/intimidating to any of us - but the lovely people here make up for it :D

Keep reading & asking if your stuck - in a few days you'll wonder how you were getting stuck!! Like you are reading lots of ways to do the same thing here - trial and error as to what works best for you?

Have fun and goodluck getting your money back!! :)

Its true that if you're used to forums then its not a problem, like you i also use other forums and they use this or similar software.

Something occurred to me though is that many of the people coming onto this site are not experienced PC or forum users from some of the questions asked.

For them I think its intimidating, partly because of the number of posts and the content.

Having said that though, there is a huge amount of goodwill on this site and the amount of help from other users is pretty good to say the least.

I have to say not all forums are like this.

First Jan have you started your own thread as that make sit a lot easier for us to keep up with your particular case and give better advice. Your prelim letter should ideally have included a schedule of charges you are reclaiming.

Pete, Glenn, Tamadus,

I agree with you all over how friendly this site is etc.. and people being willing to help one another without ridiculing or intimidating people etc.. - It's great that there is help here - even for what we think is a "silly question" when we realise answer was plain as nose on our faces when we do get an answer (ha ha another of my specialities!!)

I always try remember that not everyone is IT trained or computer literate - there are people here who have never used a computer etc.. I know my own mother wouldn't have a clue how to move this around site - let alone how to get past bank charges back etc.. - for some it will be a monstrous task? It's nice to see these people will get help and support here - as it's all going to be scary for some newcomers!!

I haven't found any of the other sites - I found this one and liked it so I stayed - so I can't compare what goes on etc.. I reckon if anyone found here they will do OK!!! :D
