Hi Nagasis,

Some just worm there way into your heart more than others. She's beautiful. You obviously cared very deeply for her, but anyone with such empathy for dogs should always have one by their side - there's so many dogs, and so few people who really deserve to own one. Please think about giving a home to another- you'll find it's completely different and your heart, which is obviously a big one, will have room for more, without any disloyalty to Pebbles :)

Thanks for sharing her lovely face with us,

Elsa xxx

I agree wholeheartedly Elsa. I give myself a couple of months, so as not to be miserable when the new one arrives. Some people may think that attitude is harsh, but it is the best medicine for me. Its just not the same to go on walks without a four legged friend, and I know you can never replace the one you've just lost, but there are so many others out there who need genuine dog lovers to give them a chance.

This time I took on a problem border on his last chance, I'm so glad I did he was worth it. He was so very different from my lovely old boy, and I will never forget any of my pets, but I had to work so hard with him to sort his problems out, that it helped me to get over Den a lot quicker.

I am sorry for everyone on here who has lost a pet. And that poem is a tear jerker. But very good.

So sorry to hear this Is It Me. I know you tough blokes take the loss of a pet just as hard as us soft girlies. My husband is testament to that.;)

His body may be gone but nothing can take away the memories of your time with Tyler.

You've done the right thing for him because I know you wouldn't want him to suffer. Not easy though.

This is for Jarvis. He came from the Cats Protection when he was 12 weeks old and we had to have him put to sleep when he was 14 years old. He was actually older than our daughter! He was so loyal, more like a human than a cat. Wherever we were in the house so was Jarvis. Its 2 years now and I still miss him. But the poor boy was named after the perv from Newman and Baddiel - anyone remember him?!

We've just lost our gorgeous gorgeous collie, who was almost 15 - we'd had him since he was six weeks old and he was such a huge part of our family. He died peacefully at home of old age and thankfully never had any illnesses in his life - we were so lucky. We're all heartbroken and I'm sobbing now as I type this. I always said because he was so good that I'd never have another, as no other dog could compare.

But we're lost without him and have lots of love to give so maybe in time ...........

My Mum had dogs all of her 86 years and bred a fair few litters of assorted breeds too. In fact we still have her 14 yo apricot miniature poodle.

You just made me wonder how many dogs she had waiting for her when she was reunited with them. That would be heaven for her. :)

And now my Mum has been reunited with her good friend and companion Poppy. They were together for 12 years until Mum went into hospital and then a nursing home, and we've looked after Poppy for the last 3 years. She adapted amazingly to a very different life with a family and another dog (until we lost him last year).

It's a day I've been dreading, but Poppy became ill over the weekend and we had to have her put to sleep on Monday. She was happy, cheeky and gutsy to the end.

RIP Pop. We miss you already. xxx

Although I cry every time I revisit this thread I also feel a great sense of happiness that people care so deeply for their pets. We all know that taking on any animal is, in the long run, taking on absoloute heartache and yet we keep doing it. It's a tribute to all of them that however hard we try, however much we swear we won't put ourselves through it again, we do because every one of them has given us so much we can't imagine life without such a companion.

Lost one of our little mice last week, after son came home from school with them four years ago from the science lab and told they would probably live a year or two and he lived to ripe old age of four and half. His mate is still alive also and weve renamed him mr jingles after the little mouse in the film the green mile. Thing is where as they always slept and I thought they didnt have much time left, this mr jingles now goes bonkers on running on his wheel and eats for england. He actually sits on the bowl or lifts it and demands more by banging on the cage:lol:

Sorry to hear of your loss also caro xx

Thanks peeps.

Mr Jingles sounds like he's got plenty of life in him yet! I had a gerbil when I was at school and it was special having my very own pet, especially as my sister was terrified when I let him out to run round the room. Hope your son isn't too upset.

I know what you mean hightail. I had thought it might be quite nice not to be tied by having a dog, but oddly enough my husband was offered a 13 month old flat coat retriever a few weeks ago that someone needs to get rid of as he has 2 males and 3 females. The males don't get on so he's looking for a good home for it. OH has really missed having a "proper" dog since we lost Taz last year (sorry Poppy - you know he loved you nearly as much as you loved him), but didn't want to put Poppy out so hadn't pursued it. He bumped into the person again today and although OH says it's a family decision, I think he and the kids have made their minds up. If I don't agree I won't be popular.

Losing Poppy really hurts though ......

I've never gone a day in my life without a dog before this week and the welcome when I get home from work is just not the same.......
