(Hi - I am new to the site, so apologies if this is posted elsewhere )

Last year, whilst on an employment break (following maternity leave). Abbey informed me that my overdraft was due for renewal and as I had no funds going into the account that they would not renew it. I had to pay it back immediately, it was over £1000 and I was unable to do that. Abbey defaulted me.

This was only over a matter of a couple of months, and my husband and I scraped the money together to pay the debt off. I am still left with a default though. Is there anything I can do about this??

Cheers

It was an authorised overdraft.

It was initially probably set up (and increased over time as a result of charges). But it had not accrued due to bank charges (iykwim)

My problems at the time were the lack of notice from them (I received a letter saying ' your overdraft if due to expire next month, you need to pay it back' or words to that effect) and their lack of understanding.

tateyhash,

1. Send a DPA Request

2. Once recieved, add up all the charges

3. claim them back regardless of how much it is and follow the step by step process in the FAQ section.

4. if your charges equal to the amount you had for an overdraft, you can start a claim to have the default removed aswell- because without the charges being applied to your account you wouldnt have needed an overdraft you couldnt pay back.
