Alongside these you should run spybot s&d and Ccleaner, along with windows included firewall, for full protection.

just remember that windows firewall does not stop outgoing nasties loaded from discs or hidden in dvd torrents ets.

 

use a software firewall always.

 

and avg is free, just that people cant follow a simple link.

Just a thought but could it be summing to do with the internet connection.

 

I am with VM and l have had other problems with 'free' links before that have wanted me to pay.

 

The other ppl l tried are also with VM it was a deal we had all taken up at the same time.

Having said that, if it is on the Virgin Media webpage, then it will probably take you to the paying one, they all have that type of agreement with advertisers.

For some reason the only ppl that seem to be getting a free version are the non virgin media customer that l no in the area we live.

 

A mate who is on bt has just downloaded it for free. and he done as matty said and as everyone else has.

I would agree with a few here. Most PC manufactors, including small shops, will not guarantee software installed. The software you have found may be the ones he used to sort the original problem out, (why he argue about removing them though I would not know).

 

I have run Nortons for years on all my PCs without problems, in fact, it has stopped infections a couple of time! AVG is a very good FREE piece of software but it comes down to choise. ALL AV programs are usless if they are not updated regularly, (I check every 2 days), and Nortons, or any other AV program, cannot be trusted to updated automatically. It is the nature of the beast, software can, and does, go wrong.

 

I presume that your worm problem has been fixed but in the future have a go at reformatting your hard drive, (as long as you have the WIN XP disc and the other program discs). It is not as hard and frightening as it sounds, there are many forums, (Micromart being one), that can give your a step by step guide and plenty of encouragement. You will also be surprised at the performance boost you get.

Yes but as i have said on numerous occassions we are arguing over the softwear he installed but that is not what l am sueing him for.

 

The fact that the monitor has gone wrong and he has refused to fix this monitor even tho it was still under guarentee then he has broken the sales of goods act 1974. He is only refusing to fix the monitor because he wants paying for softwear instilation that he never had permission to install.

So after 64 posts you now say that the software which can be easily fixed by a OS reinstall isn't the problem.

 

But you haven't said whats up with the monitor, and that's the issue you are asking for help with?

Did not pay the money as was told not to due to the programmes we did not want on there being there and him refusing to remove them saying he would need to charge us.

 

The monitor went wrong took it back and he said give me my money or l will not fix the monitor

 

I explained again that he had installed programmes he did not have permission to install on to the comp and after taking advise l had found out he has no rite to do that and untill he removed them FOR FREE he would not be getting his money. The other option was he does not charge us and were would pay someone else to remove the programmes.

 

Needless to say he said no.

If l new what was up with the monitor then l would have said but all l no l no is it does not turn on and that there is a underlying fault with it to cause that problem.

erm the screen is totally as i said good nows what is wrong with it l just got told this when l made a few phone calls about it.

 

Yes the screen is total dead. have not bothered to plug it in or turn in on since it started. God nos about the power but it was working and did have power going to it when the screen went black. The LED dont come on as far as l remember, Never had a self test message cum up so would not know what u are on about. the only thing that gets displayed on the screen is a blank screen.

well he is up the creek without a paddle now as we have had to buy a new monitor and after taking legal advise from a brill lawyer they have advised me to sue him as it should have worked for longer than the 10 mths it did.

 

Will get back to everyone on this matter as it pans out.
