Hello,

A few weeks ago I received the dreaded RG21M code from Barclays, first time ever any of my bank accounts have been under review.

They sent me an email to fill the form, however, it didn't work & had to complete it over call on 11/11.

The adviser said it'll take 7-10 working days.

It was due to a £3000 transaction I made from my other bank account, I provided proof of the transaction & stated it was my own money.

I contacted Barclays last week again, and they've sent an email to the relevant department for an update, & still said it's under review.

Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

i.e. making complaints to speed up the process.

Multiple people on this forum have had various experiences & some have waited months & I contacted Barclays again & they said they've got no idea.

typically it takes anything from 10 days to 1 month.

you've provided evidence that the payment came from another of your own accounts so there should be no issue as to the origin of the money.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Strangely enough, I got my answer after I posted this earlier this evening.

I could log into the app, see transactions but balance was £0 & immediately knew Barclays would decide to close my account.

I rang up, and they confirmed this decision & visit the nearest branch to retrieve my funds.

Clearly you already have "another a/c" from which you made the transaction  - are you happy that the other account will remain open or do you need to consider further account to ensure you continue to have banking facilities.

You need to consider what has triggered the bank into Anti Money Laudering mode !

I know what raised it, but if I'm being frank my other banks have been opened for years with similar activity it was only Barclays put my account under review.

I would've closed it anyways, their customer service is really poor.

Although I'll have to open another account elsewhere and see if they placed a cifas marker which I doubt as I didn't commit any fraudulent activity.

Yes I did some research beforehand, although this wasn't unusual & made high transactions previously but maybe because I didn't move them swiftly as this one it didn't alert the system.

It's happened now.

A quick update,

went to the branch waited for an hour, took forever seen as they've closed 90% of all counters.

Was told they required proof of a transaction, even though the letter didn't mention anything.

I raised a complaint last week, but was left on hold for an hour trying to connect to get an update.

Every number I call, especially customer service are useless.

It's been a month,

is there a way to claim compensation or escalate this further especially as I've provided clear evidence of POF?

Hi Ali,

From our experiences here with Barclays and Anti Money Laundering investigations, they'll tell you little or nothing and maintain it's all out of their control.

Your chance of compo is, at best, remote !

What's the best contact number, email or person to contact? The lack of communication is awful. They didn't even ask for POF I ended up finding the email online & sent it before the branch even told me.

Take the proof and the letter (which says nothing about proof) and politely demand your funds.

Get it done and forget about compensation or complaints - just get the money back and move on.

The issue is the money that's being held, hasn't been transferred to the account so I could withdraw it.

Then I'm afraid the reality is - you'll just have to wait.

You could spend hours on the phone or at the branch but it'll change nothing.

Seems unreasonable and unfair but that's how it is.

  • 1 month later...

Hi,

following on from this fiasco in the end I got my money from Barclays.

However, just recently Natwest have closed my account.

This is a bank I've been with since I was a child.

I'm appalled and no idea if this is based on Barclays closed my account.

I'd like to reaffirm, I didn't do anything that breached any policy and certainly didn't commit any acts of frauds.

What can I do to get further information because I'm now left with one other bank and am extremely worried something else will happen.
