My dad passed away last week and I have been helping his wife go through a few things.

The virgin media contract was due for renew in June - July time, when she rang and informed them of my dads passing she asked to take on the contract till then.

All seemed fine until a letter arrived yesterday and the ,monthly payment has risen by £12.

What would be the best way to play can the contract be cancelled as it was only in my dads name or will they try and sign her up for another 18 months?

Thanks again

JJ

Virginmedia increased it prices for all customers from the 1st March which are reflected in the Feb charges....and an eye watering price increase across the board.

Why ?   why not just carry on paying the DD until the contract ended ?

First off is the account now in the lady's name? Are the letters addressed to her? If not, call them again and inform the account holder has passed away and to terminate the contract. I know you already done this but if they have not actioned it then that's their tuff titty.

If they are in her name, call them and tell them that you will be terminating the contract due to the price increase. Now they will offer some discount to stay put but it'll be a poor discount. Continue with the termination and in a week or so you'll get a call from the organ grinder that will give you a decent discount (If you want to stay) or just start again fresh with someone new.

I recently had a price increase from £31.50 to £43 for broadband. I followed my old tried and tested routine and now pay £25 a month.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Also just so people are aware of this especially in this case  Virginmedia do have an 'Accessibility and Vulnerability Policy' which people who are customer of Virginmedia also need to be aware of.

Here is the link to there Accessibility and Vulnerability Policy:

I do agree when it comes to Virginmedia or any company for that matter you barter to get a better price.
