Boris Johnson, former Prime Minister

Still, they are managing to keep the VIPal lane beneficiaries of millions or billions in taxpayer money for PPE  out of the news

Pestfix

Uniserve Limited is a logistics firm controlled by Iain Liddell. Prior to the pandemic, the firm had no experience in supplying PPE, yet the firm landed a staggering £300m+ in PPE contract

A Wiltshire based supplier of wheelchair accessories, was handed two contracts worth £74m to supply face masks.

Luxe Lifestyle, a tiny recently-formed company with no staff and no experience in buying and selling PPE, was awarded a contract worth £26m after being referred to the VIP lane by an MP

So who thinks its fine for a police and crime commissioner (let alone one who marketed her policies as hard on speeding) to get 5 speeding tickets in a 3 month period to continue in that position?

So Johnson's done his last cabinet meeting and may or may not do PMQs tomorrow. But he's staying as PM until a successor is voted in, early September.

Does anyone know who's in charge?

Johnson is. He remains PM until he formally goes to see the Queen and resigns. Which her will do only when the the election of his successor as party leader is announced.

In the meantime the convention is that he just keeps things ticking over and doesn't announce any new initiatives, but legally he has full PM powers until the moment the Queen accepts his resignation.

Thank you Ethel. So the cabinet won't meet over the summer?

It seems like an odd way to run a country.

I've never checked but I don't think cabinet meetings are routinely scheduled over the summer. But if circumstances require it emergency cabinet meetings can be called at any time. Ministers, like with the PM, remain in post.

But as there's not supposed to be any new initiatives happening, they're just implementing already announced policies, do they actually need to meet?

Just following up on this

Her husband is the Jenrick Pal and Johnson groupie who was shunted around and around reducing tory vote share until some idiots voted him in (after failing to get a PCC job) sadly against Soubery in Broxtowe (dubious place - I know it - full of shady types always trying to rip people off - and the poor areas aren't much better, although undoubtedly there are many good people live there)

His 'history' is astounding, including:

"When people are really, really down, and when people haven't got the money, one of the things they can look to do is to get a payday loan or something like that."

interesting bit about another qinnr and a HISTORIC drink drive meaning that person didn't take uop the commisioner post

a briefing released by the TaxPayers' Alliance revealed Henry to be "Britain's most expensive MP..." after £280,936 of expense claims during the 2020/2021 financial year ... his version of a payday loan?

Dear Ms Badenoch,
I was interested to read the interview with you by Edward Malnick in ‘The Sunday Telegraph’
on 10 July 2022 in which you laid out your ambitions if you become Prime Minister.
However, I was very surprised to read the following paragraph in the article:
“Mrs Badenoch also expressed concerns that the Online Harms Bill risks criminalising factual
statements about biology and sex, described herself as an “aid sceptic” and said the
“arbitrary” net zero target was ill-thought through, adding that there is “a better way of
going about these things”.”

As you know, the Climate Change Act requires the United Kingdom to reduce its territorial
emissions to net zero by 2050. This net zero target was passed by MPs, including you, in 2019,
following expert advice from the statutory Climate Change Committee. The Committee’s
advice was based on the latest findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change and other scientific sources about the action necessary to avoid dangerous
climate change.
Furthermore, I note that the 2019 Conservative Manifesto on which you campaigned during
the General Election in 2019 states on page 2 that Boris Johnson would guarantee “reaching
Net Zero by 2050 with investment in clean energy solutions and green infrastructure to
reduce carbon emissions and pollution”. It also states on page 55: “We will lead the global
fight against climate change by delivering on our world-leading target of Net Zero
greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as advised by the independent Committee on Climate
Change.”

I would be very grateful if you could explain why you consider the net zero target to be
“arbitrary” and “ill-thought through” when it is clearly based on more scientific evidence
than most other legislation, and describe the “better way” of avoiding dangerous climate
change.

Yours sincerely,
Bob Ward
Policy and Communications Director

He of course had to follow up with more as his corrections fell upon unwilling ears which further attempted to enlighten her misunderstandings of why she voted for it ...
