Has Government reacted in a measured way ?

Too measured and talking of measures that's how the latest 'policy' has been presented, as 'taking measures'. Thing is they're not measures at all, it's just advice. Johnson is trying to be all things to all men. He can say he's being business friendly by saying he's not ordered the hospitality industry to close but at the same time telling citizens not to use it. It's lame cop out.

I think we've got it about right.  It is a balancing act and, let's be honest, effectively herding sheep.  We don't have the manpower to enforce a complete lockdown from the start and if we'd done so people would have got a false sense of security, got bored and not complied.  There's no point comparing us with other countries, we aren't other countries.

I’m no fan of Boris either but I have to grudgingly admit he seems to have got his act together.  The bumbling buffoon persona has been put aside.

Somehow we have to come out of this at the other end of the nightmare with a functioning country.  It isn’t like some movie script where we all emerge into the sunshine after a couple of weeks, it’s a long haul.

That's excellent, CJ.

On a more sombre note, I've just seen on Twitter that cynical thieves are posing as coronavirus testers at people's homes. Please pass this on so people aren't caught out.

“Ohh good, I need testing, I’ve got the worst cold I’ve ever had.

No you can’t come in, but I’ll happily cough on you on my doorstep!” .... and watch them run away!

love him or hate him, he had (at least, as Mayor of London) an ability to get good advice, and listen to it.

I am going to have potentially unlimited overtime due to this virus.  Have lost many staff to self-isolation, as  they are following the advice given.  And now the schools are closing, there is very little alternative child caring options, so parents will be taking time out as well.

Yup. We are fortunate because we both work from home and our kids are teenagers, so can do their own thing. A few years ago this would have been an impossible situation.

A Notice was pinned up in my Depot thanking us for our work over the past few weeks, it also said our health and wellbeing was very important to the company yet we have had no gloves or hand sanitiser supplied, still van sharing, takes a while to make sure the vans clean before you start your run.

This note was pinned to a door in Glasgow.

Please think about supporting local charities over the next few months.  In many areas of the country there are Hospices which are supported by shops selling items to finance the homes that they run.

In my area, a Hospice charity is having to close it shops after today due to Corona virus and therefore may not receive the income that is normally generated.

If you are able to offer the charities any financial support, many of them have websites to enable you to do this and I am sure they will be very grateful.

UK government has warned that there will be a further crackdown if people ignore coronavirus advice.

The U.K. warned it will impose tighter restrictions if Britons fail to follow government calls to stop non-essential travel and gatherings to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Think the Government are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Just How

Seam to forget that police forces cuts over past 10 year in the whole of UK.

British armed forces comprises just over 79,300 trained regular full-timers, just over 27,200 trained reserve part-time personnel.

So Boris how are you going to crack down on population of over 66 million people while the NHS is at breaking point !

If they imposed a marshall law type situation, they would only have forces in major towns and cities patrolling in any numbers. For smaller downs, they would just have local Police driving around periodically just checking what was going on. And in most cases, a polite word from two meters, would be enough, to get people to disperse. If people refused, then not sure what would be done.

Most people if told to lockdown in their homes would do so.

If it came to it, a few high profile examples might 'discourager les autres'.

"Excuse me Sir, why are you outside, and there are 2 (or 3, or 4) of you?"

Good reason : on you go.

Not good reason : on the spot FPN. Or SJP magistrates.

(I'm not even getting into the realms of "2 weeks inside, oh and by the way, how are you going to avoid catching it in prison ....."

Or, for the full blown doomsayers : martial law, lockdown. Caught outside without good reason ... just go see those army chaps over there will you .....)
