Hi,

Roughly four months ago I was travelling with my friend from Huntingdon to London.

As I was running late my friend purchase a ticket for me and we used it to get through the barriers in London.

When we arrived at Huntingdon I was asked for my ticket by an inspector and handed it over confidently only to be asked for a student railcard, something which I don't possess.

It turned out my friend had assumed I had a railcard when purchasing our tickets.

After realising the mistake I immediately offered to pay the difference (around £5 if I remember correctly )

instead the inspector proceeded to ask me to pay an exorbitant fee.

I protested and said I would like to explore other options as it seemed ridiculous I should be charged for an honest mistake when I had no intentions not to pay the correct fee.

As it took so long for them to respond to me I even believed until now that the inspector had realised it was a trivial situation and had done me the favour of not putting this through the system.

I'm being threatened with :

-A criminal record

-Fine up to £1000

-Prison sentence

-Suspended sentence

-Community service

-Compensation

-Costs

I have 14 days from the date stated (arrived today and now 11) to reply to the letter.

If anyone could give me advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

you have a generic letter with the brief details of your situation in black

so stop panicking about everything in that list

most doesn't apply to you.

your situation is a one off mistake

you simply put that in a grovelling letter and send that off.

there are many examples in threads here to use and the format.

one being..

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
