When did you purchase these and when were they delivered? How did you pay?

Under the consumer rights act you have a right to insist on a refund in respect of defects which occur within the first 30 days. You have to assert the right in writing and assuming that this has happened within the last 30 days then you should contact them immediately by email and also by recorded delivery letter and tell them that you are asserting your rights under the consumer rights and that you want the items collected at their expense and you want a full refund.

Do this immediately – don't hang around. Even if you think you might eventually want to hang onto them, send this message to them so that at least your rights are reserved.

typically the catches dont engage because the sofa is not on a square, level and flat surface,

one corner is higher/lower than the rest or is not supported properly and the frame twists,

the catch needs extending.

sounds like that's your issue as if you sit on it, the footstall flys open.

just ring your nearest store and ask them to come and adjust the catch.

its just a simple screw/locking nut adjustment.

no need to throw the whole lot back IMHO
