My partner has had a letter regarding WTC. They are pushing her to open a bank account. She has been using a post office account for child benefit and wtc for many years now.

Has anyone here had the same? is there a reason for it! usually is regarding dwp/hmrc.

EDIT: Forgot to say we already have bank accounts but my partner has always liked using the post office one for budgeting etc.

Tia :)

I suspect it is because the processing fees charged by the Post Office to HMRC/DWP for each transaction are higher than the banks. For a long while, the government would recommend opening up a P.O. account if the claimant had difficulty getting a bank account.

If your partner is happy to continue using the Post Office account, please carry on. If nothing else, it helps to keep your local Post Office in business and helps to protect a community asset.
