BBC News - Hundreds of thousands register to vote as deadline looms Registration needed by 23.59pm tonight.

People have until 23:59 BST on Tuesday 7 June to register to be able to vote in the UK's EU referendum.

The Electoral Commission said 1.65 million people had applied for a vote since a campaign began last month - but millions more have yet to sign up.

Registering online should take about five minutes. People may need their National Insurance number, or passport number if a UK citizen living abroad.

Be interesting to see the percentages when its done, although that wont show all the people who simply felt they didn't understand the real issues vs all those who simply didn't care for whatever reason.

I only realised that 4 of us in the family were still registered at a old address.

You can change address and bring things upto date.Only takes a few minutes at the most.

Good job i read the BBC report and checked things out.:-D

Those who are unsure whether they are registered should contact their local electoral registration office. Except for residents of Northern Ireland, whose deadline has already passed, those wanting to vote by post must download the application form and return it to their local office by 17:00 BST on Wednesday 8 June in order to qualify. They must return their postal ballots by 22:00 BST on 23 June - when polling stations close.

Tawnyowl

Its only in the last few weeks that I have settled my mind enough to have an opinion which I consider worth voting on.

Would I have voted if I wasn't sure?

Probably, certainly not definitely - but which way - that I'm not sure on. I had no 'default' fallback

Would others vote in that unsure situation - I have no idea.

fletchs' post in the other thread is interesting that various bodies are promoting involvement.

Yes i read Fletchs post earlier.

Such a hard decision for many people.Unsure, just reading and listening to what people are saying.

And maybe leaving things to the last minute. But many will vote i feel,i am for sure.

I am one of the older ones is all i will say.

Oh and per the thread title. I will be voting and voting remain.

The more I learn about the issues the firmer that decision (late as it was) becomes.

and the registration site collapses under the weight of registrations.

http://www.itv.com/news/update/2016-06-08/nearly-50-000-may-have-missed-eu-vote-registration/

although (only) 50,000 missed - how do they know if it crashed?

- ah 50,000 on the site when it crashed

so quite possible many more than 50,000

Why are Brexiters not happy with the extended deadline due to system problems ?

Because it is younger people registering, who are more pro EU.

Anyone know the latest news.unclebulgaria67 has there been a extension.I missed this news.

EU referendum: Voter registration deadline passes

However, the voter registration website suffered technical problems late on Tuesday evening, prompting calls for a deadline extension.

But a government source told the BBC the voter registration website was still open and accepting registrations as of 00:45 BST on Wednesday.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36462425

So much confusion.

Ah i see.

EU referendum: emergency legislation will extend voter registration deadline to midnight Thursday

This is a historic moment, and you must want to be part of it.

If you aren’t already on the electoral register, you must register by 11:59pm on 9 June if you want to vote in the EU referendum on 23 June.

It's possible. There are also expats who are entitled to vote, because Brexit would affect them. If they've become concerned about the closeness of the vote, they may be registering too.

I am hearing things,i cannot say from where. But are cities like Manchester going to be the melting pot.Is there going to be a massive turnout.Which way will it go.

It is a question that is not just dividing the country but families, cities, political parties and even the government itself: whether to stay or go.

In truth, of course, nobody knows for sure what would happen if we exit, leaving both sides free to make claims that can be difficult to disprove.

Are some politicians and the powerful ones. getting worried about things.

Saying things to scare or influence people.

Do not ask me,what do i know.

Do you.?

Register now and be part of this historic event.Or just check where you are registered, just in case.

Only hours left to register.

neutral as always.

Some people have moved since the last registration papers went round, determindator, and not re-registered.

HB

I would have thought near the top of to do list when you move home however, as you say not the top of everyone's. There's also those who don't want to be on the electoral roll.

The referendum issue has been running a long time to organise yourself to vote.

Quite right though many only just deciding whether to bother or not.
