They will also need to resolve the pension liabilities, which a new private investor is unlikely to fund. The pension liabilities go back over decades and are huge,

Yes. So the taxpayer will carry the weight of these just as it does with the Royal Mail selloff.

That is what will happen.

My instinct predicts that government will struggle to find a buyer on the terms they are willing to offer. One company wanted to change to electric burners to melt waste into new steel. It was basically to gradually reduce the current plants and change them, receiving government money to fund it.

We could do with some help from you.

Bollox Europe - this is a case of I'm alright Jack, lets think about the long term UK not Europe

UK people are Europeans with the same issues as those on mainland. The EU is too convenient to blame.

No they aren't, never have been and never will be.

Some government deciding to trade with Europe doesn't change my nationality. I am English.

Exactly, so lets tell Cameron to stop helping China destroy the UK's long term industry

.... and let the EU protect UK/EU industry as it wants too

... just as India has, Just as the US has

China is thinking of itself the way all country leaders should be.

It was the same way back with television tubes, Japan dumped them by million into the UK at below cost price until the like of Mullard failed and then Japan upped the price.

At least China has the guts to stand up to others as well as take advantage.

You can't deny that we need to sell to China, if we retaliate that will start a tariff war and we will be the losers.

From the link already given:

"Britain has been privately supportive of China's position, with George Osborne saying that Britain is China's closest ally in the West."

Now I'm sure the UK could beat China at their own game, except when the UK's own government is scuttling the UK's efforts.

You are missing the point.

Read the stuff in that link more carefully.

What collapsed the wests banking systems?

What is Cameron allowing the Chinese to 'invest' in us in return for real things from us, including shafting our national steel industry (even if it is owned by India)

As i currently work for the said steel company at one their specialised steel plants. I know we do not export China however these tariffs will have a detremental effect on Tata as those companies who do export there will stop and resell in our markets at possibly a cheaper price. Therefore jeopardizing the other tata sites. Unfortunately the goverment as been way to slow to react as was their predecessors. As we have been making a loss for a lot longer than is being advertised. Now all the talk if assisting a new buyer with cheaper energy and various other loans and offers. Why could they not do this years ago when Tata said they were struggling. It sounds daft but its a bit like switching between Sky and Virgin if you were loyal to one you get nithing but if you join the other you will get all sorts thrown at you as a sweetner. Instead of just giving you a better deal for staying loyal.

Why should the taxpayer subsidize a failed industry? Why does everyone hate free market in this country? You'd expect the Tories to be the champions of capitalism, but come crunch time they are more socialists than the socialists!

Everyone in the industry would prefer a private buyer this way we move with new technology. If it were to be nationalised the investment would not be there. So as a worker i would prefer a private buyer. Its not a failed industry far from it. Just the goverment allowing foreign companies to run our power supllies and charging double what they do in Europe. Its a bit like when we bailed the banks out. I didnt have enough savings for it to effect me personally but yet they used my taxes on that. So what is the difference?

Even the ubercapitalist Americans are more 'socialist; than the UK as they quite rightly protect their national industries.

As would the EU if Camerons Crew weren't blocking it (proof linked above in thread), and as the Germans and others already do within the EU rules.

National socialism as it should be, NOT the malformed monstrosity that Hitler and the National Front define.

So the current UK government is neither Capitalist nor Socialist - but the worst self-serving bits from them all in my opinion. (and Labour is little better)
