I have bad eyesight when the surrounding light is dim.

The light bulbs i have at the moment are those energy saving things which are totally pants for my needs

Can anyone recommend any decent bulbs such as the old style 100 watt

The thing is i do a lot of studying as i am with the Open University and this really is starting to become an issue.

Personal recommendations are always best

Just walked into the local corner shop and picked up the last 100 Watt bulb.

He said he is getting more in next week and come in packs of three.

He said they fly off the shelf and that he can never shift those energy saving (edit) as people will not touch them

And i agree

I use energy saving bulbs as well and the majority of them take too long for me to warm up to the required lighting however, I have some spiral bulbs (20w) which come on bright and stay that way. My living room is overshadowed by trees so I need lights on all day, These are very good. They did cost £3.50 (Tesco own brand)each but a good spend IMO

You have to be careful about the disposal of the energy light bulbs.

They cant be put in the general waste bins because they will go to landfill and contaminate the soil/water. They cant be disposed of in the recycling bins like normal glass.

Under the WEEE directive manufacturers, importers and retailers must finance the cost of recycling and recovering energy saving lightbulbs. Most have opted to fund Designated Collection Facilities at local authority recycling centres.

To find your local energy saving light bulb recycling point please visit the Recolight website.

What a faff! To recycle my bulbs, I have to travel 15 miles to me nearest recycling centre. Time to check out the LED bulbs methinks.

Anyone know the equivalent LED bulb to give as much light as a 100w bulb?

If you go into certain supermarkets, (I think Tesco might be one?) they do have bins to recycle your lightbulbs. I'm sure your local council can advise you.

My nearest recycling centre (which takes these bulbs) is just around the corner from a Homebase store who also take them. Spoilt for choice. :|
