one more question, the interest is what? I have a pre-advice notice and it says this:

interest (variable) you currently pay us on overdrawn balances

when you stay within your arranged overdraft limit

overdrawn up to £100 0%

over £100 nominal annual rate 17.94% EAR 19.50%

which interest do I apply into the spreadsheet?

thank you

I just received a letter after 5 years of opening the account asking if I still want to use the account with benefits

and if its not suitable for me anymore to let them know.

I think they think I will try and claim and thats why they sent it because I havent received this letter before in the last 5 years.

Because the FCA are now onto it

Shows most we're previously unsuitable

by the way I have finally received a reply to my letter asking for a refund of bank charges.

Should I rewrite it on here (I don't have a scanner),

maybe someone could have a look at it and advise me whether I should do something about the letter?

I still want to try and get the charges back, plus get the maintenance fees back. thank you

you have a few odd amounts in there

now the good news, do another spreadsheet for all the bank charges plus int at 17.94%

Because of the amounts involved, it can be claimed that you only incurred the charges due to having the misold

package fee applied to your account.

the bank charges should be refunded as further redress , once you are sucessful with your package claim

You will then need to do your letter of complaint, pointing this out

in all correspondence refer to the monthly charge as a package fee

and on your spreadsheet (use "charges" on your 2nd spreadsheet)

those few odd amounts are there because I wasn't charged with the package fee for some reason but was charged something else, but don't know what. Should I just delete those strange amounts and like you said do another spreadsheet for all the other charges?

And I take it the interest that I accured for using overdraft, I don't ask for that back, because I am charging them interest myself, is that right?

thanks

Ok, different approach, so trying to claim that they missold the packaged account to me I take it.

So I have to do another spreadsheet and then I can post it on here as well?

and is there a template on what to use in the letter when I am trying to claim the missold package account or do I just have to make it up? I have never done this before so I am not very good, my brother said there used to be template letters on here, as he once tried to claim the bank charges and won, but I don't know what to write in the letter? thanks

so 1)redo first spreadsheet using "package account fee" £12.95 then £15

2)do spreadsheet using "bank charges" both at 17.94%

3)letter headed Formal Complaint, saying how you were sold the package account, why the account benefits were of no use to you

and your need for these insurances was never questioned, totally unsuitable for your needs

and you require a refund of £xxx plus associated interest of £xxx, Total £xxx,

and as a matter of further redress,

the CHARGES levied on your account were solely due to the package account fees being charged to your account

and you require a refund of £xxx, for these charges and associated interest

and you expect an early positive reply etc etc..

post up prior to submission

spreadsheets done, I think they are ok,

I just need to put my name on there and the rest of the details, but other than that, is that ok?

Now I will just try and do the letter, I will post when it's done, although I will need help with it.

do you think I have a chance to get this back or am I just wasting my time?

thank you

I have just been looking through letters and documents from Natwest and

I noticed that I applied for overdraft of £250 on the same day the packaged account was opened,

I think that I was sold the account because I wanted to apply for overdraft and was probably told I can get overdraft if I get the packaged account only.

I also got a credit card around the same time the account was opened.

Can I use that in the complaint and use it as a reason for misselling the account to me?

because I wanted an overdraft?

thanks

there is a letter on MSE that is good.

yes you can use that

same as me

wanted an OD

got sold an account with a free OD [notice the 'free' bit - its important!!]

then I findout I'm paying for all the 'extras'

got a letter back saying if you had had an OD attached to a current account,

it would have cost more than the subcriptions fees

so they wont refund...

..shock coming..they WILL.

as the literature says FREE OD.

similar, they (different bank, loyds) tried it on in branch (sir, wld you like to discuss yr account with an a/c 'manager'...), i got her to do the calcs, the existing o/d was cheaper.

IMO

:-)

I didn't get it sold as free overdraft tho, I was told about the benefits, but

I was told I need the account if I want the overdraft as I had only a step account before and no overdraft.

I was told about the benefits and how much I would save,

I signed a document saying I understand just to get the overdraft as I needed the money.

I never used any of the benefits, most were not relevant to my needs at all,

apart from the car breakdown cover which I never used, maybe once, I can't remember,

and mobile phone insurance, where I insured my phone but then got a different one,

forgot to tell them the details of the phone, tried to claim and couldn't.

Do I even stand a chance to make a claim?

well apparently now they have to check if the account is actually suitable for your needs

I think I was sold it on the basis that I wanted an overdraft and I also wanted a credit card,

I was told the credit card with the packaged account is better deal, and

I was also told about all the benefits and

how I would save £600 a year. Yeah right,

didn't use their benefits for 5 years and

I spend over £1000 in their maintenance fees.

so it wasn't a better deal at all!

You were told it was the only way to get an overdraft

Many have told us that they went to their bank to ask for an overdraft, but were told the only way they could get one was to get the packaged bank account.

It's a fine line, as sometimes the packaged accounts do have higher maximum overdrafts than normal, 'free' accounts. But, if other accounts that allowed overdrafts at the level you wanted were available, you could have been mis-sold.

taken from http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/reclaim-packaged-bank-accounts

so maybe I do have a chance to make a claim?
