I purchased a replacement laptop battery via Ebay in August 2013, and chose this supplier as they advertised a 1yr warranty. I paid for the item via Paypal.

9 months down the line, the battery has failed.

The supplier has refused to replace it FOC, and wants a part payment, about 75% of the full cost to send another battery.

My view is that a warranty supposedly guarantee's the item purchased for a given period of time, and if it fails within that time, then it should be replaced at the suppliers cost, not the consumers.

What are your views, please?

a warranty is not a guarantee ... that a product will last the specified time.

they are effectively worthless.

SOGA/DSR/the supply of goods act are your benchmarks here

and your possible route of redress.

the trick with battery packs is to always pay the full price and buy direct from the laptop manu

not via any other retailer - as 90% originate from china, with the lion cells being manu'd in Malaysia some years previous .

as you got this thru paypal, you need to do is start a dispute via paypal

though you will have to pay the shipping costs

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
