I bought a game from 'Steam' so have no disc.

Before I bought the game I checked the minimum spec and my PC is more than powerful enough so I went ahead and bought it.

After installation I tried to play the game and it is twitchy as hell and has no sound.

I told them about this but they didn't seem to care; I asked for a refund and they said they don't do refunds; this item is not fit for the purpose I purchased it for..any advice please?

Ripped off £20 by Steam. :(

DSR. THey cannot refuse. They can easily deactivate the serial key and refund. Remember, they are an american company where the motto " no refunds" is prevalent.

ALso remember that it is up to the buyer to make sure their system is compatible with the game.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

I don't think the DSR covers software licenses like this does it?

Can I ask what game it was and what Operating system you're using? Whilst you checked the hardware specs, did you check that your version of Windows was listed as compatible? If you're on Windows 8 then some games might not be compatible.

Have you also tried updating your graphics/sound drivers?

Send them a letter of complaint and remind them they are operating under UK law by selling items in this country. If they still insist on no refund, send a LBA and then a claim.

By the way, which game was it? As some games on steam HATE win 8 and the gpu drivers on it. Perhaps dual boot win 7 and try there.

Hm, the game should work on Windows 8 as I've got it working (via Steam) on Windows 8 no problem.

As I said, try updating your graphics drivers. These do not update automatically through Windows apart from the Generic Windows drivers, and if you're using those then the game wont work. Check the manufacturer website for the most up to date drivers or, if your machine was a more custom built job (and if you're PC Gaming you really should be going this route :D ) then check the manufacturer of the graphics card and get their latest stable Windows 8 driver.

As I said, I really don't think the DSR applies to software.

The product itself isn't faulty, as you have the same copy as everyone else, so the issue does appear to lie with your computer.

A few other things to try when you verify your graphics drivers are up to date,

Verify the integrity of the local cache within Steam. You can do this by right clicking the game in your Steam Library and checking the properties.

Delete the local files and re-download the game completely.

Are you also able to post up the specs of your PC so we can make sure it is compatible?

But surely if the OP has checked before hand and it turns out it was wrong then it has been missold?
