Is there any point in flying budget airlines anymore? If you want to check in luggage then it seems that a non-budget airline like BA or KLM are going to work out far far cheaper.

Budget airlines just seem to be getting to be far more hassle than the (now tiny) savings are worth.

Yes agree.

I use Wizzair who are still much less than the others for East European travel, but their fees add considerably to the advertised base flight.

Baggage charges are £21 each way,and theres a £7 booking fee each way which means a total of £56.

You also need to do a web check in or are charged at the airport.

There are still a few levying these debit and credit charges for bookings, which the OFT told us would stop.

Although they are likely to find other ways to add fees if the debit and credit fees are outlawed by European directives,as has been said will have to happen if they dont comply.

This is exactly why I am going by ferry this year, need to take two cases and I refuse to pay their extortionate rates. I booked coach travel to meet a friend who is going by same ferry and overall cost is £50 less than a return flight to Dublin for the times and dates we want.

Plus we don't have the hassle of the airport security and having only to take small amounts of shampoo etc.. and we get a good meal on the ferry trip as well.

To be fair on Wizzair, their main baggage allowance is 32kg which is great if you are utilizing all that, their hand luggage is also 10kg.

That is the primary reason I use them.

I remember getting a return flight to Warsaw for £4 with Wizz Air a few years ago. Included all my baggage and everything as well. The golden age of truly budget airlines has been and gone I fear, the majority have fallen into the age old trap of making as much money as possible however possible.

Ive recently booked with Ryanair, it will be my first time flying with them which im not keen about but it's the only airline that fly to the airport I want on the day I want.

Ryanair, it's a one off, I promise :) I won't be using you again.

I think Ryanair are OK providing you dont mind boarding some planes dressed like an eskimo, then stripping into an Aldi bag in your handluggage once aboard.

I've a Berghaus 3 in 1 (gore-tex outer & fleece inside - so really a coat and jacket) offering 8 large pockets so my actual carry on luggage is only a 25 litre rucksack (for the 44litre 55x40x20cm max).

Ryanair also always massively overestimate their flight times as it gives them a better timekeeping record.

I like the idea of not having to wait for luggage.
