Why have the banks increasedpayments on mortgage repayments

Interest rates remain at 0.50% and banks such as Halifax and others have increased repayments as of this month. How can this be allowed?

Were you given written notice of this ?

If your contract says 'will follow BOE rate + x%' and there is nothing in the small print that says 'but', then I would challenge it.

As to the reason why - the banks have been forking out lots of refunds for mis selling of products - on top of which, they have paid out lots of bonuses - on top of which - they have just discovered that lending to other countries was not such a good idea after all so they are going to be left with a few BIG debts.

 

There is only one person they can recoup the losses which were mainly due to their own greed and that is by targetting the long suffering British taxpayer.. again!!

They sent a letter a month before, but I had no Idea I could challenge it. Standing up for myself is something I was never able to do but that has changed from today.

I think there is also the case that everyone hates the banks and everything they stand for so they have decided to take advantage of that - they ain't got anything to loose now.

Could be the Banks have contempt for the people who bailed them out, and result of PPI claims cut their holidays by 2 days?? Next should the charges issue.

We know they have contempt or at least the bosses do, they haven't curtailed their fat bonuses even though the profit/loss figures they are releasing are showing them to be making a loss.

 

I don't know why the government is proping up a private company, they let Woolies go broke with the consequential job losses for the sake of a few bob in comparison
