Blind people (sorry, some - around 1 in 6) won't qualify for the higher mobility component. That's not right - they campaigned for years for this to be changed.

In Antone's link, they mention that assessors should be appropriately qualified. Where do those of us stand with multiple disabilities? Ok, a neurologist can (mine has done) assess my sight and brain issues; yet, I imagine they know very little about my other problems.

I used to work for Grosvenor Estates, I know that the Russian oligarchs have been buying up anything around Eaton Sq and Chester Sq in Belgravia, Grosvenor rarely sell freehold so most is leased, a lot of their property is occupied by embassy and consulate type leaseholders, some is rented out, and most of the rest is old money. I didn't have a clue as to what being wealthy really meant until I went inside some of these properties, It's soul destroying if you let it get to you, some of the flats in Eaton Sq were renting out for £12,000 per week in 2007, the tenants usually pay six months in advance.

Well the bastards won over DLA but It seems that some people still do very well out of state benefits...

http://www.thisishampshire.net/news/4263528.Local_MPs_defend_expenses_claims/

Maria Miller is by the way the minister leading the abolition of DLA and placing disabled people into more hardship.

Disabled people are feeling pretty miserable today after Lord Fraud gained the majority he wanted in the House of Lords to continue to abuse disabled people. The man who as a millionaire still accepted his £300 winter fuel allowance. Similar to Cameron’s acceptance of DLA for his child.

Dear god. :(

soon this government will have no benefit for disabled people and out NHS will not exist and we will be unable to find any insurance to keep us healthy.

Its amazing how an unelected government who promised not to touch our NHS and would help disabled people can do this !!!

Not so much amazing as inevitable given the agenda of those that govern, I would not be surprised to learn that the Con-Dems are stockpiling Zyklon B, the parallels between them and Nazi Germany are striking.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted (being able to go out to shop etc). I escaped the cull that was ESA; I got put in the support group with income frozen untill it drops to the level of Invalidity benefit. I very much doubt I'll escape the DLA cull. For a start I'll definatly lose my Low Rate Care as that is just being axed. I don't think I'll keep my High Rate Mobility either. I don't use a wheelchair so I escaped losing ESA (aparently being in a wheelchair makes no difference) but not looking disabled it seems will be enough for you to lose your mobility. Fortunatly my wife is a pensioner so none of this will effect her and I'll still be her carer, although this will be a lot harder not being able to go out alone. So much for the life award of DLA got back in the day; I haven't got better either, just older with even more problems.

BTW why waste money on Zyklon B, the benefits cuts will do the job for them.

I find it too much of a coincidence that DLA to PIP has started after Ivan Cameron died...

Always thought that was well timed!

Plus I concede on the Queens estate bit too better knowledge. I'm politically aligned to "Dennis the Peasant" (Holy Grail) so....

It's the disability bonuses (on other benefits) and access to other things which DLA provide are the real issue with PIP.

It's an absolute feckin mess atm. Rather then being easier it looks like current changes and regulation shifting it's becoming harder for both claimants and the DWP/HMRC/Councils to figure out what the hell is going on.

Well the Lords are back in today to debate matters further, so I wonder what the outcome will be. Not good probably.

Saw this on disability campaigner Sue Marshes Blog today. It was a comment left that I found staggering, concerning changes that have recently been made to certain sickness benefits and how friends and family will no longer be allowed to help a claimant out...

http://diaryofabenefitscrounger.blogspot.com/2012/01/to-lords.html

Quote:

"I know we've all been aware that anyone receiving benefits could not accept a regular cash payment from anyone, which is fair enough. Many of us however who have really suffered financially before being granted disability benefits will have had help from relatives occasionally to help with a big utility bill, or to replace a needed item such as cookers and washers etc.

In the October DM guide, NO help is to be given to anyone claiming ESA or any other benefit. Relatives cannot buy food, pay an electric/gas/coal bill, buy clothing or any other utility bill for you, even if they pay them direct and you receive no actual cash. If they do, the DM has to divide the amount by 52 and deduct this directly from benefit income. At one time, anyone on benefit was allowed to receive a cash present from a relative up to a certain amount; it seems now that this is illegal too, unless of course you inform the DM, who will, yes you've guessed it, divide it by 52 and deduct the amount from your weekly benefits.

You might not think this matters, but it is a massive change. For example, friends and family have said that they would pay the 'fine' and make up any other shortfall in HB that I will have to pay to stay in my social housing home; others have said that they will help me in other ways. If I do however, I would be obliged to inform the DM and my benefit would be deducted accordingly.

Now, you probably think that the best thing would be for me to say nothing at all, but that's not going to work. When my neighbours are kicked out of their homes, or are going hungry and I'm not, eventually the DWP will latch on, and my benefits will be reduced or probably removed altogether for committing fraud.

For the first time, people will really be in a poverty trap. The trap is a catch 22 scenario. Year on year benefits won't be uprated in line with inflation (in 20 years time they will be worthless), so you won't have enough cash to even have a basic standard of living, and certainly not enough to pay utility bills; no one will be allowed to help you: a perfect trap.

The DM guidance states that the only people allowed to help you are food banks and charities. The only way to keep a roof over your head then is to find a charity or person who will pay the rent for you, apply to all the utility charities (most utility companies have their own charities) to pay your bills (however, most of them will only allow you to apply every 2 years), and obtain your food from the food bank. As for washing powder, loo rolls and the like, you'll have to do without, unless you can find another charity who will buy these directly for you. Telephones are considered a luxury item, so you won't get that paid. Also, since someone is paying your rent, you'll only be able to take this route if you give up all benefits.

This is where we are headed folks, and if you think that this cannot happen, it has happening in the U.S. for years now. Seen in this light, the different concessions we are fighting for, though important, are nothing compared to the gradual reductions in the value of benefits over time. So, the government will throw a few bones our way because they know that.

It doesn't mean that we should stop fighting; all the more so, and the work of people like Sue and many others is admirable.

You thank the Lords Sue, but had it not been for people like you they would never have known our plight, so, thank you Sue.

I'm staggered, I really am. This is going to be the cause of even more hardship to the long term sick and disabled. :(

I'm wondering about giving this new information It's own thread maybe as I'm sure It will effect anyone on means tested benefits and a lot of people on ESA will be surprised at this news of that I'm sure.
