Yes, it is a worthwhile petition. There have been many complaints on CAG that credit reference defaults of 6 years give no incentive at all to repaying debts.

I will pop you in a more prominent position.

I have inserted the link, proper, you would have been unable to do this because of your low post count :)

Ps..

Calling for people to sign up to petitions in the Campaign section often get overlooked - So I have COPIED this thread to the Data Protection and Default Issues Forums as well the link is below.

Hey guys, thanks for the help.

Although the wording in the petition isn't amazing the principle is right. I would get a shorter sentence if I went in and actually stole the money from the bank, rather than defaulting. I was also thinking about things like the limitation act. The application of a default up to 5 years after the termination of a credit agreement it pertains to is a disgusting twist in providers favour.

Why on a side note are mobile phone and utility companies afforded the right to apply defaults when they are not covered by the consumer credit act. There is no justification for this protection, you're either in or you're out surely.

I wondered if anyone has ever formalised ideas and approached their local MP. Agreeably banks aren't very keen to lend in these more difficult times and as a result have stricter criteria. Surely then it is in the governments interest to reduce the time spent in financial purgatory for bad judgement on a single occasion. Making people more creditworthy has to be alot cheaper than a mass building programme for council houses.
