Hi,

We're just in the process of sorting out a parent's estate after death. We are the executors of the will and probate will be granted in a few weeks.

Whilst trying to make sure we're aware of all of the accounts of our parent, we want to get a credit report detailing all of these. The Experian website has details of how this can be obtained after death although it's not clear if we have to send the 2 pounds or not. Does anybody know the process for Equifax or Call Credit? Is it the same thing basically? Just sent a letter with proof of probate being granted?

Any other tips from anyone who has had to track down the accounts and investments of a deceased parent?

Cheers,

Ben.

honestly i would not bother

the best thing you can do is to get your sol to post a note in the london gazette

for any creditors to pop their head up.

those that dont, tough!

i would not go out of your way to contact any creditors yourself

as exec's its not your job, but the sols to do it

thats what he is paid for!

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

We're not really expecting debts, we're more interested in just getting a list of all accounts which our parent may have had. I seem to remember that when I checked my credit report with Experian it also had information about my current and saving accounts.

There are some other credit agreements that we might want to cancel that we don't know about.

Hi, Do actually have a solicitor

acting for you?

If you do then follow DX's advice and

instruct the solicitor to place the announcement

in one of your local newspapers.

If there in not a solicitor involved yo can easily to this yourselves.

As executors of the estate it is your responsibility to ensure

that the probate and distribution of the estate are carried out

correctly.

If you do want to contact the CRA's you will need to pay the fee,

which should be charged to the estate.

this is squarely a function of the solicitor acting upon the will/death - as job as part of his remit

to furnish you with these details

he should be contacting the cra's etc to get the details of the estate.

after all , the more money he finds, the more fees he'll get

sounds like a numb-nut one you have.

you can get the cra file yourself by fwding your letter of execution and a copy of the death cert to the cra's

it will not be a quick job, and might not just be £2

you could ofcourse use your deceased's details to register and using a debit/credit card, get the report yourself, you are legally entitled to do that

it seems a wee bit strange that this info is not already know to family members though
