  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. It got sorted in the end. I'm not entirely sure how I resolved it ultimately. Nobody will tell me. I called Latam again who insisted they couldn't do anything and Iberia had to do it. I then called Iberia who said Latam were responsible and they left a message in booking system apparently. And then after 40mins with Latam, they finally relented and changed the flight. It was all very unsatisfactory customer service, but just glad to have gotten it sorted. Thanks again everyone for giving me confidence to be bold with them.
  2. Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I'm not clear about this. I used the Flight Network website, which seems to be registered as Gotogate International AB, in Sweden. I paid using a Visa Debit card in Chilean Pesos. Does this help? How else would I find out which jurisdiction is responsible for my ticket purchase? I spoke with FlightNetwork and they said that the airline cancelled the flight and they the airline provided an alternative flight (23h49m later or 25h30m total wait time), and that this was a "valid" situation and that if I wanted a different flight, I would need to pay the difference. Surely this can't be the case? I'm arriving the next day at my destination as well as being 25 hours in Madrid airport. Again, many thanks for any help you can give.
  3. I booked my tickets through an travel agency from Santiago, Chile to London, UK, via Madrid. Flights are are operated by a mixture of Iberia, BA and Latam, but the agency bought the tickets via Latam. I am currently on my holiday in London and I've just found out 3 days prior to boarding the return flight from London to Santiago, that my connecting flight in Madrid (to Santiago) has been changed from a 2 hour layover to a 26 hour layover, which I think is ridiculous. Surely this must be unreasonable? Is there anything at all I can do? Do I have any rights in this case? They could at least provide me with a hotel or similar? Or perhaps a different route home from London? Thanks in anticipation of any help or guidance that anyone can give.
  4. We're not really expecting debts, we're more interested in just getting a list of all accounts which our parent may have had. I seem to remember that when I checked my credit report with Experian it also had information about my current and saving accounts. There are some other credit agreements that we might want to cancel that we don't know about.
  5. Hi, We're just in the process of sorting out a parent's estate after death. We are the executors of the will and probate will be granted in a few weeks. Whilst trying to make sure we're aware of all of the accounts of our parent, we want to get a credit report detailing all of these. The Experian website has details of how this can be obtained after death although it's not clear if we have to send the 2 pounds or not. Does anybody know the process for Equifax or Call Credit? Is it the same thing basically? Just sent a letter with proof of probate being granted? Any other tips from anyone who has had to track down the accounts and investments of a deceased parent? Cheers, Ben.
  6. Hello, I've been living abroad for a couple of years and I want to buy my credit report. It seems like I need a UK address. Is there an easy way for me to obtain it? Also, I'll pay with my foreign credit card, is this likely to be linked to my credit profile?
  7. Hi, I'm a bit confused by something that has just changed on my credit report. I've missed 8 months payments (according to Experian, although I calculate this as 6 months) and now it says that the account balance is "settled". Settled on other items on my credit report usually means that I'd paid the account off. I've not got the money to pay the debt so I'm totally flummoxed as to why this has happened. Can anybody tell me what this means? does it mean something else? cheers.
  8. They have my parents address and another extended family member's who they are sending lots of correspondence to (addressed to them directly). Since both of these people are a bit on the old fashioned side they are nervous about letters and are now very angry with me. Can I get the SLC to stop sending these letters address to extended family members? Is there anyway I can do it without the letter since I'm on the other side of the planet and it will take time and I don't have the details of my student loan either.
  9. I've been waiting months for the reply to this post. I'm in the exact same situation (pre 98 and all) and I'm wondering how to proceed. Because of them hassling extended family, who I've not seen for years, I'm getting all types of grief and I want this to stop. I sent a letter (with the official form) to the SLC some 6 months ago stating I was moving abroad without a job and they just kept taking money from my UK account so I cancelled the direct debit. I'm a bit miffed that I now have to make an international call to sort this out. Is there any way to deal with this via e-mail does anybody know? The incompetence that I've endure with these clowns is beyond the joke. Not only did they start taking money from my account while I was still a student way back when, they decided they could only repay the most recent 3 payments. Very angry.
  10. Where can I find a list (or information about) of countries with reciprocal agreements with the UK?
  11. Hi, just a quick question. I've got a bad credit rating and I need a bank account which gives me a card which I can use to make withdrawls abroad. Does anybody know which is going to be my best bet for this? cheers.
  12. I've rented 5+ houses over the past 10 years and this is the first time that I've come across this particularl weirdness that I'm about to explain: I went to hand in my notice with the letting agent today. The usual 1 month notice that has always been the case in the past with other properties. The lady at the letting agency said that I would actually have to pay up until the end of December. Her rational being that I pay my rent on the 1st of each month. I can only give my notice at the start of a period of tenancy (ie. 1st of each month). So if I decided on the 2nd of the Month that I wanted to give my notice, I would have to pay until the end of the next Calendar month. Is this something new that I've missed? Am I out of touch? Can they enforce this? Any ideas what I can do because I really don't want to pay an extra 2 weeks if at all possible?
  13. This is kind of related to a question that I have. Can DCAs go to previous addresses where you've lived while you had a credit card? Or will they only bother with your current address? What happens if you abscond? Can they check previous addresses? Or are they not allowed to do this?
  14. Can anyone advise me if there are any agreements in place with Brazil? What are the chances of a DCA or court proceedings taking place if I'm living in Brazil?
  15. I'm absolutely clueless about this type of stuff. I've got an Egg CCA which seems enforceable too. I did the application online and my signature is a tick box. Does this sound right? Anyway, I cancelled my direct debit about 2 months ago now and have been getting a wide array of letters asking for payment. I owe about £4000, but I'm interested in what you say about offering a final payment of 25% How likely is it that they would accept this? Can you offer lower payments? I'm not bothered about my credit rating at all, all I want to do is avoid them getting a CCJ taking money out of my wage.
  16. 1. I understand that I should keep making the token payments until the creditors are in default of the CCA request. Is that correct? Yes. Once they are in default, they cannot demand pyment and nor are you obliged to offer any. Oops... have I made a mistake then? I made my CCA requests about 15 days after I missed my monthly payments. Is this going to be a problem?
  17. Without going off-topic here, can you advise what type of considerations the DCA take into account when deciding whether to take someone to court? I have a Halifax Platinum card, I simply cannot afford to keep up repayments (on that and other cards), I can't even pay the interest. It has about £4000 outstanding on it. Quite frankly I'm past being bothered about my credit rating, I don't own a house or many posessions, I just have a young family to support. To be honest, I'd be happy for them to come inside and take whatever they want, there is so little to take anyway. I'd be happy to receive calls, knocks at the door, whatever... It would make things awkward though if they managed to take from my already low salary...
  18. When you say that it is standard practice for them to threaten legal action, are you implying that it doesn't necessarily lead to legal action immediately? From missing a payment, how long could I expect to wait until I've got a date in court? A friend stopped paying his Egg card and just told the people on the phone to "bugger off" when they threatened him with action. He's not heard anything for 6 months - is this standard behaviour from the banks?
  19. Jogs, thanks for the info - good to know! Can they still 'setoff' if they have a CCA that is unenforceable? cheers. B.
  20. Hi all, if I'm having difficulties with a Barclaycard account and payments. Can Barclaycard obtain payments from my Barclays current account without a court order? I heard a rumour that it was possible. Anybody know for certain? Also, if I signed up to my creditcards online, is it a waste of time making CCA requests? cheers. B.
  21. thanks for the reply pin1onu. I'd rather pay a £25 fine than a £60 fine. The signs indicate a £25 fine. So that was really the root of my question about that. If the worst comes to the worst, can I just claim that I'll pay £25 only? I pay £20 a month for the permit. They give out more permits than there is space in the car park which seems unreasonable to me. The car park is full of cars without permits also which is really annoying. I think I must have signed something to receive my parking permit, but I don't remember being given time to read any regulations. I've copied out some of the rules and regulations that seem relevant: 5. Possession of a valid permit does not confer a right to a parking space. 8. In lined car parks, vehicles must park in designated parking places only. Vehicles must not be parked in areas hatched in yellow, on yellow lines, in locations where health and safety issues arise (e.g. blocking fire escape routes) or in such a way that cause obstruction of inconvenience to other users. Permits will be revoked for persistent non-compliance. 12. Application for/acceptance of a parking permit shall be deemed a legally binding acceptance of these Conditions. 15. Failure to comply with paring[sic] regulations may result in a fixed penalty charge. Point 15 is the only reference to a fixed penalty charge. Can them spelling parking incorrectly be of any use to me? Also, I thought I read somewhere that the wording "fixed penalty charge" was reserved for real parking tickets? Is putting this in the regulations something I can use? The invoice from Parkforce is the standard one which everyone receives. Although mine doesn't have a photo of my car printed on it, it has a sticker at the top right with the details of my car written in blue pen.
  22. Hi all, I don't think this exact situation has been covered in the other threads that I've just spent hours reading. I was slapped with a £60 Parkforce ticket for parking on the pavement at my place of work. On the entrance to the car park (which is barrier operated) there are signs that say "Wheel clamping in operation for not parking in the correct parking spaces. Release fee £25." There is no other signage of the Parkforce variety. A year ago we were given parking permits with a document that says: By displaying your windscreen permit, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions (please also see the Car Parking Regulations document for full regulations, available on requestion):- ... 4. Vehicles must be parked in designated spaces and comply with campus parking restrictions. A fixed penalty system is in operation. I've read other parkforce threads that say that having the Parkforce signage is necessary. Since the only warning I had was in this document, does this still count? Also, since there are signs in numerous places claiming the fines are £25, does this override the document that we received? Also, I've read that the fine should be proportionate to the crime committed, since I only parked on the pavement, what can they claim their loss was in monetary terms? On a dishonest note, I was thinking of changing the address of where my car was registered before Parkforce obtain the details from the DVLA - anybody got any opinions about this? What about changing it to my address at work? Any ideas anyone?
  23. Hello all, I've just received one of these Parkforce tickets. I read through this thread and it is very interesting. It seems that Parkforce are now part of the BPA. So that's a bit of bad news. I got the ticket for parking on the pavement at the private carpark where I work. It's £60, which I thought was a bit steep. So if I understand this correctly, this penalty charge was put on my car by somebody at my work and they just leave all the admin to these Parkforce people? Should I be writing to my place of work? The reason why I parked on the pavement is because the carpark was full. (There were a number of cars with tickets parked on the pavement.) Anyway, I don't know if this is a glimmer of hope, but they put yesterday's date on the ticket, which turns out that it was Sunday, so I'm hoping this can be used to avoid the fine. What do you reckon? I don't have proof where I was on the Sunday, but there is an automatic barrier with a keyfob that I need to use to gain access to the carpark. Someone else tried when they had the registration wrong but didn't have any success - surely they could have left it since retrieving the details from DVLA with the wrong registration details wouldn't have yielded their address/details.
