The best one has to be the first of these that we receive back.

  • "We are happy to waive any fees for production of this information (and we return your payment enclosed with your request) :D
  • If you are not satisfied with the bank's response you should now refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, as this is represents our final response on this matter... LOL (Please take this action they are saying and not court action as we will win if you go to the FOS LOL)
  • WE MAY charge a fee for reviewing your account which is to cover our management and administrative costs
  • We will not be refunding any fees charged. If you wish to take this matter to court, that is a matter for you and you alone. We will defend any action taken and will enter into no further correspondance regarding this matter, but will pass your county court summons to our solicitors to deal with. (so i do this and the next thing i recieve is a full refund with just a note saying with Compliments:smile:)

If you find this info useful please click on the scales in the bottom left corner of the thread

These little gems came from NatWest (well Stuart Higley and Michael Duncan)

We are concerned thet the OFT has publicly called into question the setting of charges....(i bet you are)

The OFT has restricted its investigation to credit cards and made no attempt to consult with the RBS group or the industry in relation to other entirely different products. (hmmm if you say so)

I can find no instance where charges have been applied when they were not properly due. (i can....quite a few)

I note your proposed course of action. I have alerted our lawyers and litigation department accordingly. (thanks)

We do not accept that our charges are unreasonable, unfair or unlawful but on the contrary are applied in strict accordance with our published tarrif...(ok....then why did you give me my money back then)

Oh well....:D

NatWest:

**£466.28 Settled In Full 21/08/06**

Halifax:

**Full settlement of £107.52 offerd and accepted 25/10/06**

GE Money:

**£48 settled In Full 19/09/06**

Barclays Bank:

**Full settlement of £90 offered and accepted on 24/10/06**

Alliance & Leicester:

**£170 Refunded In Full 17/09/07 (Charges due to bank error but still had to fight them for almost 3 weeks to get back)**

From Egg:

"The claimant is put to proof that her loss as result of charges is £166.75 as alleged"......errrrmmm....you take £166.75 from my account and you want me to prove my loss of £166.75 ??

Lord, give me patience!

And from NatWest:

"We cannot agree to refund these charges as we have made gesture of goodwill to you before"

Huh? Ejets.

And the all time classic:

"Our charges are published."

And?.....

We are sorry you are unhappy and we aim to respond to you sometime in the next 13 years. Hopefully by this time time you will either;

a) have got bored and given it up as a bad job

b) left the country and forgotten all about it

c) won the lottery

c) have died

In the mean time, please find the enclosed leaflets and I hope that by the time you have read them and had a translator and solicitor go through them, the laws will have changed in our favour.

This is what they really mean!!:p

If you think I have been any help at all, click my scales, go on.... You know you want to!

Since we are bound by the Ombudsman's decision but you are not, it seems to me that going to the FOS remains a cost-effective way, in many cases, to arbitrate a mutually acceptable resolution to a concern.

I'm sorry you remain unhappy

I have reviewed your complaint in the light of the additional comments you have made but do not feel that they materially change our position

Although we feel £20 is a just fee, we have reduced our charges to £12 so we are in line with our competitors. Go on! and they reduced their charges to be in line with you. How sweet!

Some gems I've received recently:

The offer is made without admission of liability on the part of (but you're paying up nonetheless out of the goodness of your heart)

We view our terms and conditions as fair (yeah, right)

We have always set out precisely what our charges are (but we don't care whether they are legal)

Our charges that you agreed to are valid, fair and enforceable (prove it)

I enclose a copy of 'Our Commitment to You' (we will charge what we like and close your account if you're not happy)
