Hello

I currently have a loan through Wonga which was for £400, I have paid the part payment to extend the loan this month (£135) but next month they are going to take over £600 from my account and as I only get paid £673, I just cant afford it. When I took the loan I honestly thought I would be able to pay it back in bits but I just cant. Will they put a bad note on my credit file?

Anyway, my payment now isnt due until 30th April so I am thinking I probably need to open a new bank account or, can I just cancel my card and ask the bank to stop any payments to them? I really want to stay with Natwest and opening another account with them would be ok (but a pain to change wages, tax credits etc!).

Also, should I email Wonga now and say I am going to struggle or nearer the end of April?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes contact wonga now, now tell them your circumstances have changed...

Send the same email to these 3 addresses errol.damelin@wonga.com and balanceoffer@wonga.com and john.hegarty@wonga.com.

with your proposed plan - id say for you 12mths/ 6 if you can afford.

You should get a speedy response.

In terms of your bank account..... im afraid yo will need new account.

You could go to the bank, and state you left your bank statement nd bank card in a public place and feel your account has been compromised. and ask thm to cancel the account and card, and issue you new card new account number. i would ensure they will not allow thru any transactions from the old card.

if they cant guarentee this, then new accoutn, new bank..

believe me and many others... wonga will try to raid yor account,

they have done it before and will do it again.

Hiya....

Ive had dealings with Wonga in the past.... I know it seems like a nice easy option, but honestly Payday Loans are like daylight robbery!!!! Just before Christmas I was stuck in the cycle, had about 4 different Payday Loans and couldn't afford to get rid of them!!

As far as I know, Wonga will not let you set up a Payment Plan of any sort, until you go into Default, it is only then they will negotiate with you (don't know if things have changed in the last few months)

Also, just to give you a heads up, Wonga can debt the WHOLE amount from your Bank Account whenever the please, so make sure you move all your Wages Etc out of your Account, I made this mistake once to find out they had taken over £600 in one go, even though I had told them I was having trouble making payments....

Hope this helps, Let us know how you get on :)

If you ring them directly, they will advise you ned to default. But if you send an email to these addrresses they are more helpful.

With me after sending the email, i recieved an email back asking me to call and discuss. when i called they advised i needed to default when i mentiond i had recieved an email to call after emailling the above 3 addresses they became very helpful. if i had waited til i defaulted i wouldve owed them en extra £150

Thanks everyone. I will go to Natwest on Friday and open a new account with them asking them to close the other completely so that no payments can go through on it, I will then have to contact payroll, tax credits and child allowance people (& dd's!) to change the account details - I assume this will be enough as although it will be the same bank, it will be new account number, sort code and card details.

I dont want to default as my credit rating was just starting to improve but I just dont have any other choice - one thing is for sure - I will NEVER get a payday loan again, not even for £100!

Thanks again

Hi there. Iv just come to the brink of collapse with these payday loans extending 9 every month leaving me absolutely skint. After finding this site about a month ago iv made so much progress in getting out of it and setting up repayment plans exept 1 loan they just don't wana know (capital finance 1). But I can confirm for u I I tackled Wonga first and they have been the most helpful just use the 3 email adresses above and u will get wat u want. I offered £94.94 over 12 months on a £1139.28 loan and had a response in 50mins saying yes and and outline of my plan. Email them and u will feel alot better. Good luck

You shouldn't need to close your bank account. Go to the bank, explain the situation and have them block any payments. If they can't / won't do it, then change your account. Be aware that you would need to close the existing account if they won't block the payment otherwise the bank may charge you for the bouncing payments.

With regards to paying Wonga, work out exactly what you can afford to pay them each month. (My advice would to be pay as much as possible as you want to clear the debt quickly). Send them the proposal and wait.

You could go for an online Halifax Easycash account and get that done quickly, changing your card won't stop them as they have your account details and their 'systems' are set to check your bank account daily once you do default. An alternative account is the only safe way to take back control of the situation.

You don't need to change bank account. Just ring the bank and say your jacket with debit card was stolen. i just said I think I left mine on a bus but wasn't sure if it was actually stolen.

They send you a new card with new a new number and expiry dates.

Hello

I went to Natwest yesterday and opened a new account. Once I have changed all my payments / direct debits over, I am going to ask the bank to close the other account. The card details and account details Wonga have will therefore be incorrect and I assume they wont be able to obtain the new ones without me giving them to them (which i wont!). If Natwest close the account, I would also assume that no payments will get through. I already have a Halifax easycash account but I hate it as it doesnt show debits on the account quick enough. Also, Natwest let me upgrade my account to a 'big girls' debit card and I was accepted for a credit card elsewhere so I am gutted that Wonga are about to make me look bad again when things were just looking up :-(

hey well from my experience WONGA dont respond as quickly as others have said i also kept emailing them but they only do payment plans within 12 months i think i owe 1400 the now but few months ago they said if i make payment plan they will reduce it to 850 spread over 6 months which is good only if you have availabe funds which i dont have .

also they will not send a dca for loan as they do it themselves verified by wonga staff themsels in jan 2011 before hand they did send it to few dcas also i am abt 120days overdue still no sign of default notice or even showing on my creditfile as i have checked best thing todo is change bank/account cancel card so they cant swipe your wages also they not take you to court due to their unlawful interest & fees but beware dont trust all cag member as few arecreditors/ dca themselves .

Hello

Wonga have responded to my email saying I cant afford to pay with the below. I thought I read somewhere though that I dont have to give them an income and expendicure form - is this correct? What should I do now please?

Thank you for getting in touch with us. Now we aware that you are experiencing some level of financial hardship, we will freeze interest and charges on your account for a period of 31 days. We will also stop sending any collections related correspondence during this time.

We now need you to complete and return the attached financial statement and provide us with your reason for your current financial hardship, along with any evidence to support that fact, within the same 31-day period.

It is important that we receive the completed form quickly, so we can assess your situation and decide the best solution for both of us. On receipt of this information, we will review its contents and respond to you accordingly.

That is correct, email them back and say your income/expenditure is too variable to give an accurate picture and you are reporting them to Trading Standards. Their I&E form should NOT ask for any partners income details, only yours and they are not entitled to have one at this stage.

Trading Standards and the OFT are contactable via the Consumer Direct website.

Boo hiss! You can always add a note to your credit file at some point explaining the interest was too high or saying you had issues so that future lenders can see.
