Hi everyone,

I am aware this is an old thread and there is a wealth of information contained in it, having just read through, but I am after a bit more help if possible and what steps to take next.

I too have made the mistake of using mincredit and defaulting - here is a summery of my original loan, date applied and when it was owed and how much I currently owe today (less than 2 months after defaulting)

Order date Amount applied Current balance Due date balance Due date Status

2012-10-24 £100.00 £714.00 2012-11-19 Debt collection

I have emailed them 3 times using the automated email link on their site and received no response, they have called several times and left voicemails.

How do I proceed from here? What would you suggest should I do first and then from then on?

This is causing me many a sleepless night, I am astounded that 100 (of which I only got 80!) has turned into 714 in 6/7 weeks!

Please help!

Ok. first of all dont worry., Minicredit are well known for adding on unlawful fee's and charges purely to hike up the debt.

What you need to do is get a FULL breakdown of the debt. That way we can see exactly what charges/amounts you actually owe, and not what they are trying to force you to pay them.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Dont let it cause you sleepless nights mate, they arent worth worrying over. They'll probably send their 'doorstep collection' letter a few times (dont worry, nobody ever comes)eventually get bored and pass it to OPOS who are their in house collection team. After 2 threatening emails with BIG ANGRY RED BOLD TEXT they backed down from 659 to just 76. Take control and they'll soon give in. :)

Well here is one for you. I took a loan out for 100 pounds with "Miniloansharks" After defaulting and being unable to keep to the repayments i received an email the other day Stating it was going to be passed to "Opos" (Clearly should be Oops) Now a 100 pound loan which i received 80 off. There demanding 1,492 pounds or it will be escallated. Now im not sure where i stand with this. But this interest seems Astronomical. Any advice would be great.

Hi sep. Have a read of the forum. All those charges are unenforceable and unlawful. Not surprising given who runs this company.

Thanks for the reply Renegadeimp. I bit the bullet and emailed there "Sister" company opos requesting a breakdown in the charges. this is what i received *try not to laugh too hard i struggled not to*

Loan principal £100.00

Interest £142.00

Overdue charges £80.00

Debt Recovery fee £100.00

Attempt fees (£5 per attempt) £1,145.00

Total balance £1,567.00

The last 3 are completely unenforceable and unlawful and they know it. Keep pushing and theyll start offering "discounts".

By the way, theyve dropped themselves in it with the debit attempt charges. By their own calculations, they have tried collecting at LEAST 229 times.

Keep all written evidence. You will be relying on this dependant on the outcome of their next reply. Theres a letter you can send them that calls them out. But you might not need it as their next trick will be to offer you a discount by removing the debit fee's. if they do this, then you know that they know the majority of the debt is bogus.

Opos is minicredit. Same company, same people, same office. Just one person made a paper aeroplane with the debt and threw it across the room to a colleague.

I notice this thread was started about three years ago but I still want to say that everybody threatens to send round their doorstep collection agent, but they never ever turn up. I had endless emails from someone telling me this was my "final warning" (at least two final warnings a week) and they would send someone round but they never have. They think everyone is embarrassed about the neighbours and will do anything to prevent someone coming round. Perhaps it usually works and that is why they keep doing it.

Pdl's pretty much NEVER send a doorstep collector. They know they could be shut down if they do, especially as none of them have a licence that lets them do this. The only ones that could come around are DCA's, but you can treat them just the same as a beggar knocking on your door for money.
