He was a fantastic musician......I must admit, I am not his biggest fan, but you can't take away his genius and talent.

Don't need spotify - local radio station is gonna play his songs all night :(

I personally was only a fan of his more dance/disco tracks that he did in the 70s & 80s.....in later years, his slower songs didnt really appeal to me..but nevertheless, take nothing away from what a genius & legend he was :(

He played at Aintree racecourse in Liverpool (home of the Grand National) back in 1988 - i was only a young child then, but me & my mates went up there to see him (we didnt live too far from there back then) & managed to bunk in by climbing over the fence....happy memories :(

The world was in shock in 1977 when Elvis passed away.

I remember where I was when the news broke about Elvis Mr T :( Ditto Diana :(

The world will be equally in shock in 2009 now that Jacko has died :(

I can't believe it - he was only 50 and just about to make a come back tour. I'm watching BBC2 here - totally gobsmacked, I do have his "Thriller" LP somewhere, I played it constantly when it first came out - he was my childhood hero :(

The Diana incident was bizzare coz id just woken up on the Sunday morning with a horrendous hangover from the Saturday night before....the presenter on the radio announced it & i thought to myself "what an odd thing to joke about" coz the mannerism in his voice didnt sound serious..it was then i switched on the tv to find out it was real.

Even more bizarre was the fact that myself and Mr Bo had a massive crash later on the Sunday after she lost her life and I survived it due to the fact that I had a seat belt on and Mr Bo survived as he didn't

I remember that day - my niece (who was about 5 at the time) ran in my room at about 7am and told me to wake up coz "Grandad says Diana and Dodo are dead"......will always remember her saying that. Turned TV on and it was true.....this is no less shocking.

It's very sad, remember his young children. Whether you liked his music or not you had to recognise his brilliance. Like princess Diane his age is such that he could be a relative or friend to most people.

Let him now rest in peace but may his spirit live on.

Those who are around the same age will also have grown up with Elvis and Lennon music...and remember the same shock when they died so suddenly. Reports of him being passed fit to do 50 concerts by the insurance companies suggest there was no cause for concern. Therefore it begs the question that it could have been the passion for pleasing his fans that was ultimately to be his early demise.

I put the internet on at 11.30 to see on Sky homepage so I went straight to BBC news to see what the situation was... OH had Teletext on downstairs and we confirmed the two.
