Hi all,

Sorry for not progress-tracking this on the forums but I preferred to keep a bit of a low profile. Anyway, last Saturday HSBC offered £1480.00 of a £1650.00 claim. Mindful of the fact that having used the on-line statement service with no manual intervention information and that HSBC may well have been able to show around £200 of MI costs should it have gone to court, I accepted their offer and the money was in my account this morning. It was an offer of around 90% - not bad.

Anyway, the timeline was approximately as follows:

  1. Day 1: Prelim. letter hand-delivered to branch. No receipt but helpful lady logged complaint call on the system while I waited with her. Letter had 14 day expiry.
  2. Day 21: Having failed to receive a response I wrote again stating my disappointment at having not received the courtesy of a reply. This was special delivery and provided a further 14 days.
  3. Day 22: Response to prelim. letter arrives stating the usual "fair and transparent".
  4. Day 28: Letter offering 90% in full-and-final settlement arrives.
  5. Day 29: I send signed acceptance.
  6. Day 31: Money in account.

Thanks to all whose posts I read and drew inspiration from. Thanks to CAG for the templates and FAQs (read these before you start - I can't stress this strongly enough).

I'll PayPal a donation shortly. Good luck to everyone else.

Cheers,

Simon

Cheers all.

Not so much enjoyment from the money. I've used it to pay off the Mastercard - seemed the best use of it. While the Panasonic Hi-Def Plasma looked mighty tempting, the new era of financial responsibility means the money goes on the card.

think about it this way, if you can clear off your card, all the money you were paying off it every month, you can save up towards your nice new plasma :)

that plus you dont feel guilty for doing it:lol:

HSBC- £4995, settled payment in full
