Click start > Run

Type cmd hit enter

type the following at the prompt

tracert http://www.ebay.co.uk

You should see the ebay.co.uk resolve to the number I just gave you and then trace the route thru every step on its way to the ebay server, how far does it get?

Can you get online at all.

Basically its getting as far as your router and then timing out so the router its connecting to isnt responding at all.

Is your ADSL link active?

It looks to me like wither the link is down and you're not actually connected or you are connected and there is a fault at the exchange.

Have you powered the router off and on?

Yes, am online on home computer now and the BT stuff came through saying we had an ADSL link, so I'm assuming we have.

Have just turned off router and put it back on again, but still no My Ebay or Hotmail.

I googled the problem today and found a page that said I need to change the MTU??????

I would be very surprised if it was the MTU that generally would cause more problems than just a few websites.

Log into your router have a look under your connection (might be called WAN) and MTU will be in there check what its set to.

You can also set MTU on the network connection on the PC too go to http://www.dslguide.org click on the message boards and search on MTU or DrTCP

It's actually quite new - well the components are anyway.

Woolwich has entered a defence now, so might have to wait a bit longer

Now had a bill from the bloodsuckers for £137.49 - for a service we never had!!!

Quick update: they've referred our account to Westcott Credit Services (that's 2 with Westcott now)!!!! Sent letter off to them saying as the account is in dispute they cannot refer it.

Sent DPA letter and today received a load of information. Most of it's useless, but there is an itemised list of payments.

They've charged a total of £67 for not paying va direct debit and £40 in late payment charges :o

What do you think my chances are of getting this lot back

I got my dpa request today 6 years of telewest bills.

I am looking at whether I need to go to arby first as Telewest say.

Because I have both spoken to them on the phone and sent 3 e mails which I have replies from, and they refuse to disclose manual intervention costs then I see no reason for arbitration I am going to send them a prelim letter once I have added it all up.

I know they keep telling me ofcom have agreed to their fixed charges but they would do..............its the Telephone companies that pay for ofcom !!
