My work friend has just received a letter form the council giving her a date to go to court! otherwise pay £45... she doesn't have £45, well resents paying it as she is cery careful with her money.

What happened.

Received a letter requesting council tax, her friend called them and they asked for three months in advance which they hadn't got! So they stupidly ignored it.

Next thing court letter.

She has today paid the outstanding council tax but can she fight the court charge? £45.

Summons Costs incurred - £45

They didn't warn her nothing just given till thursday 8th feb

Help me to help others!

No - the charge is automatic, as is a 10% surcharge on the amount owed. Councils have been known to pursue folk for the difference. It does seem reasonable that she does pay her way as she benefits from the services. Just be lucky that the council do not (as yet) send default information to CRA's.
