Hello I'm a newby and I wondered if you could give me some advice, I have a standing order of £4 for an animal charity, I tried to cancel all my DD's with Halifax, thought I had but didn't realise the £4 was SO, anyhow didn't have no money in the account as I had sent a letter asking them to close the account ( long story) anyhow long and short of it they keep paying the £4 and charging me £35 for being overdrawn - I don't know who to contact to cancel the SO as I've been paying it for years and I've forgot how and when it was set up -I'm in despair at the moment as I haven't got the funds to cover all the extra charges being heaped on me.

It is very simple. A standing order is YOUR instruction to the bank to pay x amount to x person. Therefore, all you have to do is tell the bank to stop paying that s/o.

It seems to me that it is implicit that if you ask them to close the account, you ask them to stop any activities going on the account, and therfore, they would be totally at fault for keepingon paying that s/o against your instructions.

You need to read very carefully the FAQs and the forum material. Then go for it, reclaim the lot.
