I recently got into a bad financial position, whereby 3 of my direct debits with Nationwide were returned at a charge of £30 each one! One of the Direct Debits was only for £7.50! All in all this summed up to the amount of £90 which I can ill afford at this present time. They have now been reinstated and paid - my question is (sorry-but I am a newbie at all this), where do I go from here and what letter do you recommend I send and to who, would that be my local Branch or the Head Office. This is the first time I have ever been charged as I have never been overdrawn before. Thanking you in advance.

Hello Kipperfeet.. strange name... hope they really don't smell that bad.

Sorry Kipper had to edit this bit... READ THE FAQs section.. the bank owe you the £90.. get a copy of your bank statement showing the direct debits and corresponding charges... then use the template for a prelim letter in the library.. if u need helppost here.

Once you get the charges back (hopefully in about 6 weeks) you might consider if things are really that bad, using the returned charges to visit a podiatrist or chiropodist.. i also understand there are some fairly good off-the-shelf treatments available (feel free to PM me)..

Perhaps we could arrange a time however for you to pop in an see my bank manager,in the close confines of his office (prior to receiving treatment).. again please PM me for details.

thanks.

I do NOT have smelly feet or look like a kipper!!! lol This was a nickname given to me by my mother - but you made me giggle anyway!! I think there is a misunderstanding somewhere along the line - I meant it to read that the direct debits were reinstated and paid by me, NOT that the Nationwide had returned their charges. Hope this now makes sense. Thank you for being patient with me. Thanking you in advance once again!
