Welsh language: Driver wins case over English-only parking charge

A parking firm has lost a civil case against a motorist over an unpaid £160 charge after she requested the details in Welsh rather than just in English.

Judge Merfyn Jones-Evans rejected the parking company's application and issued a judicial warning that all signs in car parks in Wales should be bilingual.

edit shame the BBC KEEP CALLING THEM FINES!!:frusty:

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

I've seen it suggested that this a 'rogue judgement'. Apparently the law requiring bi-lingual signs and documents, the Welsh Language Act 1993, only applies to public and public-funded bodies, not private companies on private land, nor does anything in POFA require it.  If that is right it will be no surprise if it is overturned on appeal. No doubt we will find out in due course.

I'm astounded that the victim said: "she would be ready to pay once the company sent all correspondence bilingually" 😯
