Good day,

I have an unpaid debt in kuwait and am concerned as I cannot pay the debt just now as I am unemployed.

I worked in kuwait for approx 5 years and took out a loan with a bank there, I paid over half of the loan but due to health reasons I had to leave my position there, I have attempted to pay a smaller amount and set up a payment plan but the bank insisted I pay the entire outstanding amount which I cannot do,

I live in England UK, and have been receiving emails from the bank threatening legal action, I am very concerned that I may be in serious trouble, what can I or should I do?

Obviously this is a huge strain on myself and family, do you have any advice please?

Thank you.

That's very kind, all help is good. Don't let it take over from sorting out your own issues though.

You can read around the various forums and if you think you have something to add to the discussion, you just click on the last post on the thread to answer, like you are on your own thread. :)

as long as you are only conversing and paying the bank, then you are doing the correct thing.

there are numerous like UAE threads here , just have a good read and you'll soon get the idea.

its rare the banks themselves initiate anything nasty , but they could go for a ccj or a statutory demand but they can be dealt with.

how much of this debt is their fake interest, has it ballooned since you left.

Hi dx100uk

Thanks for the information,

the debt is to NBK kuwait, I initially took $100,000, paid over $60,000 back but had to resign due to health issues,

I have made attempts to pay my savings of £15,000 but the bank refused and eventually I had the funds sent back as they said I put the incorrect IBAN and Swift codes,

since then I have had to use this money to live on and health bills,

I have made attempts to arrange a payment plan of what i can afford but the bank is adamant I must pay the total amount,

the interest is mounting up I think it's over £1,000 extra now, I have not answered the email for a few months and have blocked them, hiding my head in the sand I guess.

Any advise will be very welcome, and thank you.

It was necessary for me to have a local Kuwaiti bank account whilst I was employed there, I worked a rotation of 28 days in Kuwait and then 28 days back home, this was employment within the Oil and Gas sector,

as such I supplied them with all my personal details and I assume my employer at the time did the same, (my employer was a Kuwaiti based company also),

I have not moved house so they have my current address in the UK although they do not know if I am a home owner or not, just the normal personal details,

they did not request national insurance numbers or my UK bank account number although I sent my salary back to my account in the UK on a monthly basis so the will certainly have these details in their systems.

I have not been back to Kuwait since August 2021.

Thank you very much for your advise.

I appreciate your support.

One more concern of mine..

Can I get into trouble here at home?

I genuinely want to pay this off but can't at the rate they want.

But am worried I will get in trouble here with debt collectors and the like.

Thanks again and take care.

Have a great Christmas, not long now

I have been potentially offered a job in West Africa.

This could enable me to start paying thus money back.

Would I be risking arrest or detention in this country due to the unpaid debt in kuwait?

I am concerned if I should accept the job there due to thus.

Are there any ways I might get detained there?

no.

they no longer do the Interpol thing anyway.

stop reading scam websites that say these things

all those sites are trying to do is to get you to sign up to them, their fees and scam you out of payments that very little of them actually get thru to the bank.

That's reassuring dx,

Thank you.

If I am offered the position I will take it.

Great news.

I did not know about interpol!

So I should just avoid GCC countries then?

Thanks for your advice and support.

May I ask how you have such a wealth of knowledge?
