Yesterday I was caught shoplifting by a store detective, even though he said I could leave if I hand over the goods I offered to pay for them and he agreed. Afterwards he escorted me out I asked him if I was banned and he said normally yes, but because I paid for the items he agreed not to ban me and gave me one more chance but he took my photo and said if I was caught shoplifting there again, he would call the police.

Is that the end of it? If I go back there again they can’t claim I’m trespassing?

Hello and welcome to CAG.

From what you say, that's the end of it. Did the security guard give you anything in writing?

If so, you've been lucky but you need to address why you're doing this. It might be worth having a chat with your GP if you have underlying mental issues that are causing the problem.

The main thing is to take the chance you've been given and to stop shoplifting.

No, he didn’t give me anything to sign, he didn’t even ask for my name or address, he just told me to go home...

"No, he didn’t give me anything to sign, he didn’t even ask for my name or address, he just told me to go home..."

Then draw a line, and call it a learning experience.

And perhaps don't go back there for a little while - maybe long enough that he starts to forget your face

"Out of sight - out of mind" and all that
