Tougher laser misuse laws come into force

 

Offenders will face much tougher penalties of up to 5 years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.

 

-- new penalties for those targeting lasers at vehicle operators come into force today

-- laws seek to protect passengers and operators from growing concern of lasers

-- 5 years in prison and unlimited fines now an option for worst offenders

 

New laws introducing tough penalties for people who target vehicles including train, planes, cars and boats with lasers come into force today (10 July 2018).

I particularly liked the result of an abuse of a laser pointer circa 2000.

The offender thought it’d be funny to put a laser pointer “red dot” onto members of the public using a cash machine in London.

 

He chose to do so for 2 blokes at the cash machine.

They were plain clothes Special Branch Officers (on protection duties).

The offender wasn’t laughing so much when he lost his front door and was staring down the barrel of the weapons of the Specialist Firearms team responding to the perceived weapons targeting of the officers ......
