A strange thread perhaps and why have i written this.

Well i have been watching as a couple of people write letters to each other for years.

When young i used to write letters to relatives thanking them for birthday presents etc.

I watched the person write a letter and was surprised in these days of emails that they get so much pleasure from this practice.

Writing a letter, putting it in an envelope, sticking a stamp on it and trotting off to the postbox.

And waiting for a reply.

Really feel tempted to get my quill out dip it in ink and write a letter to myself.

Then i could act like Mr Bean.

Excitably open it wondering who it is from.

Do any of you out there in web land, consumer land still write letters to friends, family etc.

And how long have you communicated with someone this way.

I find as i get older for some reason i want to go back to this practice.Do you?

Fancy buying a fountain pen, or Quill, blotting paper a writing desk and having a go,do you.?

Or do you only communicate this way perhaps. If so i may not get many replies.

Maybe you use both methods, email and write.

Thanks for any responses,

Yours faithfully,

Tawnyowl,

Just practising i am a little rusty.

Hi Snowdragon and WarrenBuffet for your replies.

Interesting that people can have pen friends but not meet them.

But can get to know them so well by the power of the word.

Also it seems that people enjoy receiving letters so long that is it not in a brown envelope which fills many of us with dread.

In my case tearing a little opening first to give me a clue.

Why I do that I do not know, perhaps remembering way back when the postman used to throw a bagful through the door.

I have just had a quick look around and it seems that letter writing is good for you in many ways.

Can you believe this news.

Better put a link on.

Don't know about actually writing a letter with a pen. But I still send the odd letter or two, all be it typed up on the computer and then printed out. The worthwhile ones get printed on good quality paper, the rest on cheap and thin paper.

Up until she passed away, I used to write to my Mum every week. I would start the letter on a Sunday and add to it up until the Friday when I would finish off and post it. Mostly she would receive them on the Saturday. I would use a variety of note paper or cards and add dried flowers or photos and images. I did this because it was becoming more difficult for her to hear when anyone telephoned and she wasn't into IT or texting. I have copies of all the letters I have sent her and when I was sorting out her paperwork after she died, I noticed she had kept all of mine.

I actually miss writing to her and for the first 3 or 4 months of her no longer being here, I would find myself choosing a sheet of note paper and starting the letter.... Dear Mother.....

Hi citizenB

I read your post yesterday.A wonderful warm post written from the heart.

A story that is described so well in a few words.

To think that you kept each others letters.

It seems there is nothing like the connection between mothers and their children.

Yes Dear Mother,a few of us would like the chance to write to them once more.

But our memories are always there.

Warmed my heart this morning reading your post again.

Bye for now

Tawnyowl.

That is such a shame labrat :(

I ask all my friends and family to send me postcards whenever they travel. I have hundreds of them and keep them in an album. It is nice that they always fill the card up with their travel stories.

Mobile texting, social media has a lot to answer for.

I still write alot but it's short stories now adays

Unfortunately my dyslexia dysphraxia dysgraphia and aspergers hold me back a bit.

Just had a reply from a magazine saying how much they enjoyed it and actually put it past several readers however general grammar failed it in the end.

I have however been invited to resubmit it when it's tightened up.
