V5 Logbook

Hello new the forum so apologies if this has already been asked.

 

I'm looking at trading my car in within the next week or so and have realised I have lost my logbook (Yes i do own the car), because I'm moving address as well the DVLA says it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get a replacement. Can i still trade my car to a garage without my logbook?

There have been significant changes to the V5C system, which car buyers and sellers both need to understand. The DVLA revisions have introduced a website registration process available for anyone selling a car to either a dealer or private buyer, which is designed to cut hassle, reduce the waiting time while paper documents are processed, and hopefully save the tax-payer some money on admin costs.

 

As a seller, this means you’re no longer required to post your V5C off to the DVLA when you sell a vehicle, but if you don’t you are still required to report the change of ownership online.

I've used the new dvla online system to transfer a motor and it works quite well - both buyer & seller get instant email notification and no need to rely on the post. If you've lost the V5 I don't think you'll be able do the transfer online, unless you know your V5 doc ref number.
