Hi peeps, I have COPD and have problems walking.

I'm not bothered about extra benefits but I would like a Blue Badge.

Under the new rules if I'm born before 1948 I can claim DLA Mobility..

If I'm under 64 I can claim PIP.

I'm 65 and stuffed as far as I can see.

Attendance Allowance (which I can claim) seems to be for folks who need help just existing.

Any Ideas

G

You can apply for a blue badge regardless of whether you get a disability benefit,

mine was awarded and renewed on the basis that I am virtually unable to walk

even though I don't get (yet) high rate mobility for either DLA or PIP.

I applied online via my council's website.

Age isn't relevant. Although receipt of some benefits makes you automatically eligible for a Blue Badge you can still apply if you need one because your COPD limits your mobility. Your local authority will then asses whether they think your condition is serious enough to justify a Blue Badge. My father has COPD and I did his application for him and he got a Blue Badge even though he wasn't receiving any benefits. It was quite complicated though, they're quite strict nowadays on what the Council consider justifies a Blue Badge. If there's someone from a voluntary group who understands what's needed could help you apply that might be very helpful for you.
