The point I was making is we are going to undeveloped countries to create what we have, and then lose our own skills. I wasn't referring to the money we send here there and everywhere or China trade deals, it's the irony of it all.

 

Could the workers form a CO-OP to keep the plant open, I hope all avenues have been explored.

The question you need to ask is where companies in the UK buy their steel from. If they are buying it cheaper from abroad and UK plants cannot compete, then action is needed. The steel plant needs to become more efficient and probably some government investment is needed.

 

To lose UK steel manufacturing capability is madness. You can never predict the future and we may just regret not saving the Redcar plant when it was possible.

 

This Tory government is the most unpatriotic i have seen. They seem willing to sell anything off and contract many things to foreign companies. I just wonder why they see Britain as being better off being a totally open market place, with it being irrelevant who owns or runs anything.

Erm, who sold the Port Talbot steelworks, the biggest in Europe, to an Indian conglomerate in 2007, a company that imports all its coal and ore from abroad, not the Tory Government.

 

As for Chinese workers exploitation making their products cheaper, Labour want's to push the minimum wage to £10 per hour making Chinese production even more attractive and 'forcing' even more companies to abandon the UK and move their production to China.

 

In 1972 when the Unions foolishly decided they would show the government it was Unions that ruled the country and not them, a lot of coal was coming from Australia as it was cheaper than that mined in this country even after the cost of transportation.
